Just a thought, but have you sorted the day off for the England game on Monday? England v Iran - Monday 21st November | KO 1pm ⚽
Oh aye, I quietly retired a month ago. Well at 54, not technically, but left my employer of 25 years. Wahey....so I'm watching every single game of this WC. Even bought a new telly. I know, I'm a disgrace.
Not much chance. Have a work conf call with my Austrian Clients from 1:30 to 2:30pm. Which is bad timing. I’ll miss the USA Wales game in the evening as well as I’m at Wembley Arena booked months ago
Aye. I work shifts. 2nd day of my 4 off. If we win group and go all the way I only miss the last 16 game.
Never really been a fan of international football, although it would be nice to witness something - didn't realise I'd be as happy & proud as I was when our lasses won the Euros. Love when smaller nations do well
In many ways international football is much more of a level playing field than club football. Obviously money still plays a role as far as training and other investment goes, but isn't it great that Salah will always play for Egypt, Son Heung-min for South Korea and Lewandowsky for Poland? If international football worked like club football, they'd all have been "bought" by England, Germany or Italy years ago.
It'd be very interesting if all the players playing had to play for the country they were born in! Over the years a lot of the better players for France have obviously been of African descent, particularly Algeria... Now THAT would be great to see On a serious note, I don't know why I'm not more connected to it, never really have been bud. I'll watch the matches, but it generally wouldn't hurt me if England lost in final again, in comparison to anything major with us i.e relegation/missing promotion, etc. I've been to a few games too, was at the match where Rooney broke the goalscoring record for England, against Switzerland 2-0 (2015 iirc). When he scored the penalty the atmosphere was fantastic. Shame about the Euros a year later! Watched them against Brazil in 2013 too, Ronaldinho got an award (I think for appearances?) and was crying over it, which was a nice touch, one of my favourites players, he missed a penalty that game and we won 2-1. And been to a few other England games, but overall I'm just not as passionate for it as I am club football mate, even though I do enjoy watching 'em at Wembley
Couldn't give a monkey's toss about international football. I'm at work and I've been bored to death watching dour side to side England for years and fed up of three two week international breaks a year. Can't wait for end of World Cup so I can see Spurs win the League. Bah humbug... Only kidding. Course I want England to win it. That said, international football doesn't really do it for me and I'm glad League's 1 and 2 carry on through the World Cup.
I'm working only 5 mins from home, so may knock off an hour earlier than usual to watch it. Having said that ; the bloke who I'm doing a new roof for is a Boro fan, and has suggested watching it at his with a few beers He's got one of those outside bar shed kinda jollopy.
I'll be at work but not too fussed to be honest. I'll catch the highlights later no doubt. The first group game is traditionally a dour affair anyway, although most games under Southgate generally are. The group draw has been kind to us and although I've not looked into it I'm led to believe it all opens up well for us to go deep into the tournament? We'll see.....
Seems to. If we finish the top of our group, we'll play second in Group A. You'd imagine Netherlands to finish top, so either Senegal (if they do finish second and us top, think it's first time we've ever played them), Ecuador or Qatar. Mane is out for a couple of games for Senegal so he'll be a big miss, Ecuador have some exceptional players, but a bit like Switzerland or Norway, the rest aren't great. But we should still 'easily' beat them if it were them. Can't see Qatar doing much. If we do manage to get past one of those, potentially lines up France for the quarters though - and I don't think our back line has a prayer against them
11:30pm kick off for me. Result! Not so great for the 4pm (2:30am) and 7pm (5:30am) though. Guess sleep is for losers.
