A Tory mayor and Sunak's local airport; though neither reasons will save it now the new harrower of the north is in.
If I was a betting man, I would think that there are members of the government or their associates on the Peel board
I've only flown from LBA once, but found it a pain to get to. Manchester isn't good, but when I was flying regularly both Birmingham and Gatwick were convenient on the train from Doncaster/Sheffield. I preferred Brum with the monorail from the station but Gatwick is only 3hrs from Doncaster and cost the the same as the train to Birmingham...
I did!! There is a prevailing crosswind that makes small aircraft landing...err...interesting. I once flew back from Belfast, landing in bad weather in one of those small BMI twin turboprops and it is the one and only time that I could see the runway out of my window up to about 3 seconds before we touched down! We came in sideways!! Ironically having arrived from Belfast, we were ushered away from the airport due to a bomb alert, and escorted in the wind and rain to the main road with the underpass. I only had my business suit and laptop bag so I got soaked. Adding insult to injury, my pre booked taxi back to Barnsley was held up as the road was closed by the police so it took 2 hours before he arrived. I was frozen stiff!! Oh! and the third thing was I had flown all the way to Belfast for a meeting at Govt offices only to find out they had called a strike that day and we had not been notified!! I had to hang about all day before catching the flight back. Great days!
Just had another email in the last hour cancelling the holiday completely. I can choose a full refund (only paid deposit) or, can choose another holiday. If its more expensive, they will discount by UP TO 10%. I could fly from East Midlands, same dates, same hotel, but I can't get the smart room I had previously booked. Probably be round the back overlooking the bins! Well, that's just joyous. Hope you have more luck!
Its the highest airport in England and I too have experienced BMI sideways landings at LBA from Southampton. The winds are excessive at times, I have no idea how the pilots flew the war planes out of there during WWII, must have been a nightmare.
If you contact the hotel they may switch it for you if you explain. I’m sure they’d rather do that when you are a genuine customer who booked it in the first place rather than have you cancel. It (or something similar) must still be available if it’s only just been cancelled.
It is for me, as I live in Headingley. It's 7 miles away. Not that I've flown anywhere in 3 and a half years...
Wizz air moved all there Eastern Europe flights to Leeds………and now Richard Branson being mentioned to buy Donny Airport
