Has anyone ever used a food bank? How did they feel about it? Would they use one again? Do you need to pay anything? Do you need proof you're on low income?
For most food banks (including Barnsley Foodbank) you need a referral, you can’t just turn up. Once you have a referral, you’ll be given a voucher for a 3 day emergency food parcel. You don’t need to pay anything and anyone who desperately needs one would of course use one again as what’s the other option? People don’t use them through choice. I think the biggest misconception is that people think anyone can just rock up to a food bank if they feel like it and just get free food that they don’t need. Only people who have a voucher can use it. There are other, similar, places that may do a ‘pay as you feel’ or who will give away free food no questions asked, but they aren’t a ‘food bank’ as such.
21st century Great Britain and we've got food banks, what a state of affairs, it breaks my heart that some of our people are in this position, each political party should take a long hard look at themselves.
