Yes I found it myself, I donate to the Guardian so I read it online every day, its just about the only newspaper worth reading.
Helping people with energy prices has to be a top priority for the new PM or millions could be sat in the cold and dark this winter.
That's going to be 2 months (or more) wages for many people. The rise was already starting as a result of the lockdowns and then Russia Invaded Ukraine and made everything unimaginably worse. I don't know what the answer is but it really is unsustainable. It's a economic nightmare.
Tories helping people? Hahaha, that's a good one. Expect token gestures while they blame the EU/foreigners/striking workers and quietly allow their mates who run the energy companies to trouser record profits.
Direct Debit Guarantee, I was right, the payee is NOT allowed to change the amount without giving the payer written notice 10 days prior.... Unless of course there's some sort of get-out for energy companies.
Doesn't sound right, I've always been notified when they are going to change it. Either by letter or email. Have you tried contacting them to query it?
You'll just end up with debt and potentially bailiffs on the case (eventually) also likely to be moved over to pre pay meter which is more expensive.
Are you sure they’ve not notified you by a different means? Ie, an update on their app or something like that?
I really understand your thinking here mate, but if you can afford it, I’d advise paying it. The consequence could affect you for years to come. This issue was caused by price capping by the government which was a mental policy. It’s eroded the competitive market. The energy companies are following policy, and they will take legal action with anyone that doesn’t pay which will no doubt end up in a prepayment meter. This is without a doubt the worst result for anyone. If you think your bills are going to be high come October, imagine being on a PP meter and paying 20% more for the privilege. Usually it will take approximately 3 years to be able to show a reasonable history for them to even consider taking the PP meter back out. As I’ve said before I worked for 15 years for one of the big 6 and still have connections to the industry. I also was directly negatively impacted by the governments policy, as I had to close my energy business because of it. My bill come October will be over £6000. So I feel the same as you, but alas it will have to be paid.
I have nothing to add to Terry's post regarding paying your gas/electricity, but I didn't pay my poll tax and got a CCJ against my name and it adversely and seriously affected me for about 10 years. I couldn't get any kind of credit, couldn't get a gas or electricity account, couldn't rent a house, and was ruled out of many jobs because of this.
The people of Russia. EVERY person living in Russia. Should be made to suffer. Cut off ALL business with them. Do not trade with them. Buy nothing from them. Sell nothing to them. Cut Russia and every one of its citizens off from the world. They will revolt against the oap dictator when they're living in hovels with access to hardly anything and barely even existing. The world can adjust to living without russian gas, Russia can't continue to exist without ANY imports or exports or trade of any kind. Fcek em. Every one of them. They are committing atrocities daily and we've completely forgotten about it and done sod all to stop it. Cut them off. Let Russia burn
Eat drink and stay happy Wen r lass gets cold r tell her to go to bed, that way its always nice wen r ger in.
You do tend to go a bit OTT with your choice of words sometimes mate. Make them all suffer? Let them burn? 144 million people in Russia. Large numbers of those will have nothing to do with the invasion. Some will oppose it but be too scared to speak. Some will oppose it but will be powerless to do anything. Many will support it because they’ve been fed state propaganda from the day they were born. Many will support it because they’re being force fed lies. Do you genuinely believe these people deserve to suffer and burn?
I didn't say let the people burn. I said the country, as in the establishment. Do I think it's nice to see the people of Russia suffer? No but I'd much rather they suffer, who actually can choose to stand up if they want to, than I would like to see families in England who can't afford to eat in England suffer or families in Ukraine get blown to bits. It may be harsh but you wouldn't buy cakes from a German company in 1940 would you
