Just read that and I’m now more confused. I grew up in Ward Green and know most of the places mentioned there, but there seems to be a lot of contradictory information in that thread.
Is the general consensus that there was a hill fort, or that it was all follies?

I've not looked into it in any great depth, so to speak. What few ancient sites still in existence locally have tended to be damaged to such an extent that it's pointless doing much archaeological work on them from a financial point of view.

From what I remember there is one near Wigtwizzle, out Bolsterstone/High Bradfield way. It's a walk away from a road called Mortimer Road, across a field.
I know no more !! Sorry.

It’s a massive shame. One of my best friends works for York Archeology but he’s a Sheff Wednesday fan so I can’t accept anything he says as true.
There ought to be a government fund for archaeology.

My late grandad showed me the Iron Age site in Wombwell Wood, he researched it intensively in the 50s.

There are no visible stone circles, but the ditches/ramparts are still pretty visible

Although accepting I'm somewhat biased, I agree.
