Out of the 14 players Real Madrid used to win the champions League last night 12 of them missed our cut off as they were too old for Khaled's vision for Barnsley FC. Just a thought
According to the new chairman we're not just exclusively going for the young cheap, hopefully make a quid options. We are also going for a few cheap experienced ones aswell. But the academy is still king.
If anyone wants to watch a team full of U23s. They play on the Queens Ground every week don't they, for free.
I wonder if that was the ‘**** question’ that got Toni Kroos’ knickers in a twist - ‘Toni, how disappointed are you at being told you are too old to sign for Barnsley?’
I can probably hazard a guess that the number of times I’ve seen us compared with Real Madrid, I can probably count on 1 hand. Possibly just 1 finger in all honesty.
I have no problem in signing young players who can already do a job in the league were in to then develop into better players. My problem is when we sign players who arent yet good enough to do a job for us. Or when we make every signing in the hope we will sell for a profit and the scattergun approach you only have to look at how much the current owners have spunked on players since our last promotion under stendel to realise they are getting it wrong... over 1million pound for schmidt to replace keiffer moore... jesus Obviously moving forwrd id keep with the young players but mixed with 1 or 2 who have more games under there belt.
That squad had Schmeichel, Irwin, Bruce, Pallister, McClaire all over 30 and May, Cantona and Keane above our cutoff.
They weren't all kids it wasn't just Beckham Scholes and Giggs etc there was also Schmichael, Irwin, Sheringham, Keane etc as well as youth there was experience in the 1999 squad which that the quote was about they certainly weren't all kids despite all the myth and legend.
They are over that figure. That excludes the massive stadium loan they’ve took on - which is over £700m alone….. The way they are run and secured by members, essentially means the bank owns them. They are too big to fail, as too many people inc. the bank would lose too much money. Therefore they just keep steam-rolling onwards……
Experience can mean games played. Hourihane. Winnall, Mawson etc may not have been experienced in terms of years but had plenty of games under their belt. What would sound massive alarm bells for me is players 23+ who have played less than a 100 games. Oulare springs to mind.
