Recently had surgery on my right eye (I’m blind in my left already) I had a cataract and a mechanical pupil dilation. Basically my eyes are crap I also suffer from iritis uveitis glaucoma blah blah you get it. Since having my pupil dilation everything is extreamlu bright during daylight hours and I’ve been told this could be a permanent thing and I should invest in some quality sunglasses. Having done a little research I keep getting raybans, I know some will say these are a just a designer brand but there is quite a bit backing up their quality as well. Does anyone have any or can suggest proper quality glasses I need polarised obviously 100% Uv protection but I don’t want them really dark that I have to remove every time I enter a building. I never realised the range of different kinds of glasses there was available if I’m honest from colours of the Lenes Etc
Plus I’m not sure the benefit of theses glasses seeing as he is totally blind to start with and has nothing to protect
Don't know if they'd be for you. But I have had to squint all my life in bright sunlight. Especially in my left. Having to walk round with it shut most of the time. When I chose my last few pairs from the opticians they incorporated reading and reactolight (I assume you are aware of reactolight) in the same lenses.
I have some polarising raybans, theyre worth the money. Id recommend speaking to a decent optician that you can trust though. I use Raisons near the Alhambra, Chris is brilliant.
Would definitely need polarising just for that added clarity. Also do you glasses have that weee it stops or mitigates the slide glare where the sun comes in from the side and reflects back off the inside of the glasses I’ve read somewhere it’s a thing but not sure what it’s called and if all decent glasses have it
Cheers for the reply and be reactolight I assume you mean when the Len’s turns darker indoors and lighter outside? I’ve seen glasses with this in but the ones I’ve seen all seem to react really slowly infact my mum has a pair that are still dark after being unsode 1015 minutes
I bought a pair of Dolce and Gabbana aviators about 10 years ago. They've been in the sea, swimming pool, been in hikes, had sand on, sweat, they've been sat on, thrown around by the kids, dropped on the floor... you get it. I paid £189 for them and what an absolute bargain that was. They're beat up to hell now and my wife keeps demanding I get some new ones but I'm loath to part with them. 100% recommend.
The sunglasses industry is a massive racket, a huge number of companies (including Ray Ban) are owned by Luxottica so it has a fairly egregious monopoly and dictates the price in the market which is way above what it really should be. I think there are better alternatives that are significantly cheaper - I just tend to get some that I like the look of from T K Maxx for 10-20 quid but I'm not fussy. I'd definitely do some research into potential independent alternative brands before buying Ray Bans.
Yes agree. The reaction is not instant but suit my purpose having not to change specs when necessary. And having to carry 2 pairs around. Really dark in bright sunlight and clear inside the home.
Cheers, this was the poit I wanted to make in the original post. I’m not looking for asthetic reasons so branding isn’t my motivation, I get that a lot of the market is brand oriented and people are more bothered by appearance over actual use and I like yourself have always chosen the ‘cheap’ options but having my condition now and the recent surgery and speaking to the surgeon and eye specialist these really aren’t any good and I do need to pay for quality hence wanting peoples opinions I have done a little research and honestly raybans genuinely do coke over as real quality for actual eye care not just branding or asthetic but again I’m no expert in this all I know is I really need something to really protect what I have left for as long as I can and gone are the days that primary glasses are an option
I’m not actually under any optician I’m under hospital ophthalmologists and have been for some time. I will go and visit one as I need to buy right and first time I just am not a fan of going in places and feeling I have to buy there and then and I usually find when you go anywhere for advice they are only interested if you buy. I know this may be wrong but as I’m not already under an optician you see my point
I d go and ask a few independent opticians if I were in your poisition. Maybe everyone assumes I'm poor because I rarely feel pressured into buying anything !
