Rotherham players - how on earth did they come up with that idea? Very original. I’m sure they will have a great time mixing with the Wigan players, and players from all the other clubs. Except those players who win the play offs - who will just head to Vegas a couple of weeks later.

And then when they sign some new players we can look forward to the videos of embarrassed players being forced to stand on a table to sing into a microphone “ #initiation “ Because we’ve never witnessed that hilarity before.

Btw this is not a pop at Rotherham players as such - just why are they (footballers) all so devoid of planning anything remotely different?!! (Yes, obviously Dubai is the only possible alternative!)

If they go every year they probably love it there. Each year the sports teams went on 'Tour' at uni and it was always Salou or Lloret de Mar, as did all the other unis. It wasn't original but it was a chance to get together with like-minded people for a week who you only ever see once a year (my friend met her husband there after seeing him two years in a row and now they have two kids together). There'd be common initiation events, like the singing, there too. It would be the same thing every year but that added to the charm, seeing the new people doing what you did the year before. It wouldn't be the same if it was always something different. If a club booked a different place then they'd be the only ones there and would miss out on meeting up and as players change clubs every two minutes, they probably know most of the other players there. In fact, they probably have better mates from other teams than their own teammates sometimes. Coordinating every single club to go somewhere else, and then finding a place that would accept everyone, would be a right ball ache.

Strange that cos we have managed it on our Girls’ weekends every year, (bar covid) for 20+ years at different venues with 10 - 30 people, with different themes. It hasn’t diminished the experience - it’s enhanced it.

I think the point is that players of all the different clubs go to the same place so they can hang out together. It's easy for a team to arrange somewhere different for their own players but then they don't get to holiday with their former teammates. I believe you are talking about 10 - 30 people in total, not probably 50+ teams (depending on how many join in) of players and staff, totaling 1000+ people.

Yes I think we are talking about the same thing. I just find it a total football cliche that they all have to head to the same place and do the same thing year after year, when there are so many other possibilities.

Maybe we’re different, but the beauty for us as a group is going to different places, seeing different people, and experiencing different things. Obviously I’m not a pro footballer but I’m pretty sure I’d get bored of the same thing every year.

I think it's just a British thing to be honest. I know a fair few people who go to the same place on holiday every single year. And I can't fathom it. But each to their own. Maybe some clubs go to the Brecon Beacons glamping but keep it under wraps? Who knows..

If it was a holiday with my mates who I see all the time I wouldn't want to go to the same place every year, because like you said, it would be boring, but an end-of-season party with other clubs? I can see why they would enjoy the tradition of that.

It’s not a bad place to be going in your twenties, with plenty of money at your disposal.

Gone are the days of a players party that involved a stripper and a blue comedian....
My how Rotherham ave gone up in the world lol

In the 90s I was that man not the stripper might I add lol....I missed that job and many other stripping jobs by inches although I can get 13 budgies stood on the old lad..OK the 13th does stand on one leg though and as to flap a wing for balance.
In all honesty I died on my backside in the grand scheme of things ....( I wasn't alone that week Stan Boardman had the same problem at Southamptons party along with Jim bowen and a few more lads at their respective gigs)
At the end of the afternoon
When I came to be payed the Rotherham player in charge of the money ( sorry no names no pack drill ) refused to pay me saying I was garbage just like my act ....
I replied well you've been garbage most of the time youve played for Rotherham but they've paid you so I guess we are equal on that footing ...however I'm not bothered if you pay me or not... keep your money you tool .. The News of the World would love to hear what I've just witnessed...so keep my fee I will sell them the story and triple my fee,adding,....we comedians get such a large fee at these dos to keep our mouths shut due to what we see ...what we see stays in the room especially when certain types of ladies are involved or has that not crossed your mind dumb nuts
The player in question stood there letting it sink in not knowing what to say or really how to react
Unfortunately for the player in question their manager Ronnie Moore had been listening to his alcohol fueled ramblings having just two minutes earlier thanked me for what he and John and a few of the older heads of the clubs coaching team had found entertaining....
On turning to the said player he told him in no uncertain terms that he was bang out of order and had to pay me straight away .... Ronnie then agreed with me that Rotherham paid the player in question when he was garbage...Ronnie continued to give him a right dressing down in front of everybody in the room and made him apologise to me...he then went on to telling him he was being fined my fee for the afternoon for embarrassing Rotherham football club and trying to rip me off....plus he ordered him to go home adding the days over for you son call it an early bath go home now... ..Ronnie and John knew I wouldn't have gone to the papers and I would have sorted it out later with the pair of them .. he then proceeded to pay me double money saying I'm sorry for that Bry..maybe now he's learnt the hard way and hopefully will teach him a lesson in life.....
Lovely bloke is Ronnie with or without his hat forward or backwards lol
