I'm actually quite impressed that even after getting rid of the reserved plus option due to years of false advertising that they have STILL managed to falsely advertise the buying options for next year's tickets. That takes some doing does that
Did anyone contact the club about this? Something for the Supporters trust to push the club on and nothing the club shouldn't be able to post an article about/ email push about by Lunch tomorrow.
I’m just bothered that it adds extra stress to the section of our fans who would benefit the most from being able to plan their finances, rather being held in limbo for a month… and the club really doesn’t seem to care.
Would a credit card provide a credit option ? I am not tuned in to how things work on such things but if someone wanted a ticket & the club have not yet provided an alternative , could this be an answer ?
It could for someone who is in a position to obtain a interest free on purchases card, though it may be a bit late in the day to apply and get one now. Also if anyone does go that route they have to make sure they pay it off in the interest free period or it can become a huge bill. Anyone who is paying interest on a credit card balance is being ripped off, its almost like getting a loan from the Mob. Credit cards are very useful if managed well. Often those who are in most need of using them can't manage them properly and it just makes things worse.
If I buy one I stick it on my credit card but then I can pay it off. Not a good idea financially if you can't pay the balance in full, interest rates tend to be highest for the poorest.
And spectacularly so imho. To be offering money back draws to those able to pay up front when anyone who needs to pay via one of the instalment routes is excluded from said draws by dint of the club not providing the promised facilities, just totally stinks to me. (NB - I think this may be in breach of the club's 'draws and lotteries' licence and in the absence of Mr 99.9% replying to my emails I have asked the council to look at the matter).
The club have been contacted numerous times by myself and others. When I spoke to them they told me that the Klarna option would be 3 payments over 2 months - so not 3 months as advertised by the club. When someone else on here corresponded with them in the middle of last week that person was told that there would not be a Klarna option. The club have still not informed anyone more widely that the Klarna option will not happen and are still advertising it on the club website to this day!!! I think it might have been the same person who was told that there will be a different 3 month payment plan but that it will take another week to set up!!! Given that the club say that the 3 month instalment plan will be withdrawn on 29th April that means that it will be open for 3-4 days' maximum! If the new offering is the same as the original Klarna, 3 payments over two months, then exactly the same could be achieved by extending the early bird to 31st May, ie folk who use it having two cleared wage receipts with which to pay. This would have the triple benefit of fans not getting into debt, the club getting more renewals and the club not having to lose the fee to the credit provider. It also has the ring of a degree of fairness about it in the context of fans like me who've been going for decades currently suffering under the biggest cost of living crisis in our lives. This has all been more than evident to the Supporters Trust throughout and it's why I am sceptical of them ever being able to achieve much in terms of the bigger picture if 18 out of the measly 23 days in they haven't even visibly been campaigning to get the ludicrous early bird deadline moved. I don't think anyone would say such a change was contentious and so no reason for them not to imho.
Cheers for explanation , I understand that any credit usually incurs a charge so am I right in assuming that if the club had an option for people to buy their season tickets would this not also incur some kind of interest charge , if so I am failing to see what would be the difference but like I said I am not totally tuned in on the subject .
I think the other part that’s missed is the potential for the delay that other priorities might take over and ultimately might dictate the person might not renew the longer this drags out especially with the cost of living crisis at the moment.
So rates of interest are key thing and those range from 0 to typically mid 20s on credit cards, though worse options do exist. If you get something on credit or a loan its on a fixed term so you can see the full amount you will pay. The danger if making purchases on a credit card is if you just pay the minimum required. At that point nearly all of your payment is just paying off interest. You could end up paying for years and paying back a lot more than you borrow.
For those that really need or prefer to use credit then there are some alternatives to credit cards out there. Monzo is a brilliant banking app that I’d highly recommend. They offer a ‘flex’ account where you can split payments over 3,6,9 and 12 months. Splitting over 3 months is interest free too.
that person was me apparently the finance company doing the 10 month plan will be doing the 3 month interest free option now, poor planning from the club especially as deadline is on friday
