Talking about when Foden was forced off the pitch and then received a sly kick which didn't look too serious but which Foden made a meal of. Ok, that happens all the time but the disgraceful part of it was when the City player rolled over in agony, a few times then stopped. Then he realised he was off the pitch so started his death roll again, but this time back onto the field so that the game could be held up. Did the commentators mention that? No, of course not. There was no excuse for the childish antics that followed but Foden caused all that and history shows us that it doesn't take much to wind up players in that kind of cauldron-like atmosphere. There was fault on both sides, on and off the pitch, and I got a reminder last night why I stopped watching Champions League football a long time ago. There were some good bits late on, of course, but mostly it was a bore-fest and I would expect the same in the next round. City just want that cup, and they won't care how they get it. Why I bothered to record the match last night, and watch it on FF this morning, I'm not sure. Probably the Stones Factor, wanting to see our old boy play well. No other reason I can think of.
Foden' s great and by all accounts had been kicked all night ( haven't watched it so that may or may not be true) by an AM team that were playing very negatively. Not sure I can see City winning the champions league though.
If Barnsley are 1-0 up in injury time of an important game, and somebody gets injured on the touchline, I'd say a majority of Barnsley fans would want him to roll onto the pitchside of the touchline.
I stopped watching the champions league a long long time ago. I fully agree with you on the cheating which has been fully dressed up in the language of gamesmanship. I saw the incident you mentioned on the news this morning and it left a bad taste on so many levels. Some will look at Man City as a shining edifice of greatness in the football realm. Others will see abhorrence given how its been "built" and how it conducts itself.
I used to think Foden was one of the next generation of Great English players but now he's just an arrogant spoiled brat. Still a great footballer but taken in by his own hype.
Honestly - he's really not. I've met him a couple of times as he's a kind of friend of a friend of a friend (in a very distant way) and he's been super generous with his time with my mate who has a load of family health issues.
Because their nose is in the trough imo @Prince of Risborough. I'd bet there are some conversations about it offline but they're not courageous enough to say it openly.
I watched the match & you are right, they gave Foden the full treatment all night especially Savage who was at him off the ball really aggressively , even Hoddle made the comment that they were targeting him because of his ability & he should rise above it because if he was not a threat to them they would be leaving him alone . Madrid were a disgrace & if anyone watched the match they would not criticise Foden instead criticise the disgraceful behaviour towards the officials & none more than Simeone who was blatantly whipping up the crowd into a hostile fervour in the last few minutes , Foden & his team mates can hold their heads up high in the way they handled themselves under such severe provocation & justice was done with result over the two legs .
You’re probably right and it goes right through the different broadcasters. Sick of hearing how “clever” players are at the dark arts. I don’t like to see Barnsley players cheating either.
The disgrace was the way the Madrid players were kicking the City players all over the pitch (as in the 1st leg) and the ref did nothing to try and curb it How on earth than 'challenge' on Foden in the first half didn't lead to at least a yellow, I'll never know. Just completely cleaned him out
I didn’t see the first leg or the first half last night but I’m sure you’re right about the constant fouling by Madrid. Their behaviour towards the end was despicable but I still say Foden provoked that late melee with his pathetic and obvious over reaction to the kick. No wonder the opponent tried to drag him off the pitch. Overall an ugly spectacle of a so-called football match. The kind of event I’m more than happy not watching.
