If the inevitable happens does anyone think if we sold our entire 'first XI' we'd get that in total ?!? Serious question and your thoughts on the more than inevitable offsetting our relegation loss. If we did sell the aforementioned 11 in the current climate of transfer activity I'd reckon we'd struggle to cover it. Then baring in mind we'd have to spend to create a new team. Scary times.
Hard to tell, but I would hazard a guess that the combined value of our star assets has possibly halved since last April.
All joking aside I think we would do it easily enough. Morris, Helik, Anderson, Styles, Collins and Woodrow are 6 players who I would imagine would cover that cost and then some. Maybe they wouldn't fetch what they threatened to if sold 12 months ago, but Morris especially has increased his value with performances over the last 2 months - I'd be disappointed with less than 5 million for him.
Agree with all that bar the last line. We won’t get anything like 5m for anyone after relegation. Likely that clauses around 1.5-2m will be triggered when we go down.
We should be getting 3+ million for many of them even in this climate. I would expect Helik and Styles to go as they wouldn't get international Football playing third tier. Collins might be happy knowing with us he's at least guaranteed regular first team Football in a position where you rarely get a chance otherwise. Andersen may well be happy staying if he's kept captain. Morris and Woodrow will clubs risk it with their injury records? Outside of our two internationals Brittain could be the most likely to go and if we did sell those three I would be annoyed if it didn't cover the loss.
"star assets"??? I was unsure of what you meant, so ran it through a thesaurus and came up with some alternatives...... " ....exaggerate, hyperbole, embellish, overstate, heighten, misrepresent, amplify, distort, falsify...."
I doubt our owners will get the true market rate for any player they sell ,but a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay & I think the vultures will be circling as soon as the final whistle blows , my worry is that I have a gut feeling we will panic sell to offset the potential deficit , I hope they stay strong but I have no confidence .
If we received 5 million for Morris, I would never say a bad word again the owners again ! 1.5m at best
We will sell players to raise funds, but we will also sell players to reduce our payroll costs. There is a reduction in cost built into their contracts, but it will not be enough. Players who have a reduction built into their contracts will also have a right to look elsewhere, before they have to accept a reduced wage.
I doubt that they'd be able to leave for free. But a reduced fee will be in their contracts. Wigan had agreed a fee of £10m for Antonee Robinson in January 2020. When they went down, he was able to leave for around £1.5m due to his release clause. I think Joe Williams was similar. So, the fees could actually be pretty grim reading in that context.
I know he as . That does not stop our clueless owners selling at the first bid does it . What he’s worth and what we will sell at , a different matter
We have sold very few players in our history for 5+ million pounds ashley ward, mawson is that it? We sold keiffer moore for 3 million and we sold one of the best ball playing center backs ive seen play at oakwell for 2.5 million who is now a regular in the premiership. Chances of getting 5million for any of this current lot are slim to none. If we do conway wants a statue building and could sell sand to arabs and footballs to Manchester united.
We will sell 3-4. Some contract negotiations will be the problem. If we don't go up on the bounce, which is unlikely we'll hit far more problems. It makes getting the right manager in & an experienced pro far more vital.
