If we narrow to premier league, you'd say Terry Henry did ok at Arsenal at that time, and if you want to say English player you'd say Rooney was a bit better at finding the old onion bag during the same era.
I did actually mean English strikers. So up against the likes of Owen, Fowler, Cole, Kane, Shearer etc. Never really played for a 'top' club but an outstanding goals return.
