Im enjoying the Poya way of playing, 4231, it suits the players we have, some of the passing between the 5 midfielders is great to watch with the wide men cutting in on their stronger foot. Its also bringing out the best in Helik, Anderson and Morris. We might have found a good coach who plays good attacking football and keeps the defence strong.
He's found his best side finally & we are playing some great football. Hope Morris isn't crocked, as that would be a massive setback. He was immense again today.
Gang Nam poya style ... Ok maybe not. I did say a couple of weeks back, maybe he's starting to get a hold of this team. I'm not giving up on him, he at least is giving players the chance (hondermarck an exception) and if they consistently **** up, are now starting to find themselves out of the side..... Have we been too harsh too soon? Edit.... I can just imagine the ponty end singing and dancing about to that. I've made myself laugh
I agree. My only worry is that there isn't anything much to come off the bench and very few interchangeable players to come in if there are any injuries or suspensions.
We played a team tonight already on the beach knowing they won't go up or down. That said Poya set us up well and if I was looking for a fault it would be that after two early goals we didn't get any more.
For me, Bassi and Quinba looking to drive forward coupled with their obvious talent has been the difference. And Wolfe shoring up midfield.
I’m not convinced by him at all. I think he’s been lucky in getting two brilliant loanees in as well as Morris & Anderson back from injury & up to speed. I personally think we should have been doing a fair bit better since January. The teams almost all championship quality these days as opposed to the start of the season when half of it wasn’t.
I like Poya but I do also think the penny has finally dropped and the Play-Off hangover is now over. There's always been an air of "it'll be right this season" that's took longer to snap out of. The confidence has never left in spite of Schopp and Poya originally finding his feet. If we can keep Quina and Bassi fit for the next nine games we'll stay up.
I’d say we need to keep all of Andersen, Helik, Wolfe, Gomes, Quina, Bassi and Morris fit, given the lack of depth. Could argue that we need to keep the whole of the starting 11 last night plus Kitching fit. It’s a very fragile position to be in. Particularly with 7 games in April.
I suspect we are now likely favourites to be the one to stay up from the bottom 4 given the others are struggling for wins. Typically, I'd say we don't deserve to be, but given our perilous state, I think its imperative we do. In terms of Asbaghi. I hope he's not here again next season. Though results have picked up, we've still been second best in most games and even yesterday, despite a more front footed showing, we didn't really create much. A toe poke as the ball broke nicely in the box, a completely free header from a corner and most else were speculative shots from distance. We do look more organised defensively, though we still give up some very good chances and it's always going to be a case of needing our opponent to be less clinical than they may otherwise be. Quina and Bassi clearly have quality and the returns of Morris and Andersen, with the emergence of Wolfe has made a huge difference to the starting 11. But our front line seems all too often detached from the rest of our team. I'll be interested what he does if Woodrow returns. If we change shape a little or if he prefers 1 front man. We do need him to succeed in keeping us up to minimise the financial disaster given our much burgeoned cost base.
Disagree we will have enough turmoil next year with 4 loanees returning to their clubs and whoever we sell to start to balance the books. We need some continuity. Also it’s a pleasure watching us play at the moment, let him grow in to the job.
Turmoil should be our new motto under this ownership! I wouldn't say its been a pleasure to watch. It's been an awful lot better the last half dozen games, but we can't deny we've had luck in most of those games and our chance count is still nominal, just that we've been much more clinical. One of the things I've always enjoyed are listening to the pre match press conferences. I can no longer watch them. He's absolutely ruined them. Best scenario would be a Struber one. We stay up, someone has a brain embolism thinking he's a genius, pays us some compensation. Agree about stability, but I've long come to terms that stability at our club is a very fleeting friend.
I’m pleasantly surprised how he’s turned it around. A month ago I couldn’t see us even getting above Rotherham’s all time low points tally. Still think there’s a long way to go to keep us up. Reading have a few winnable games left and we need to start picking up points away too. If the miracle does happen then Poya deserves to stay for next season. That’s if he wants to, given the financial mess we’re in.
agree with this. I was very critical of him but credit where it’s due, we look a lot more organised now and are playing some nice stuff.
Quite a stretch to say that Bristol were the better team last night. Yes, we had a let off in the first half, but I can point to chances for Gomes, Vita and Quina that o would say were more than speculative. I suspect any neutrals watching that game would say we comfortably deserved the win
