I should have been clearer. These restrictions seem a step up compared to what they usually do and it's China we need to keep an eye on. Hopefully it's them dealing with BA.2 and not that they have found something more serious that the rest of us don't know about yet.
Recent research suggests some of the population have a degree of genetic immunity to catching/symptoms of Covid - which would also mean that some are likely more susceptible. IIRC it was 16 genes identified that were common among those with no/lesser symptoms after exposure. Your lad might be one of the lucky ones.
