I just went to the air bnb app and typed in Ukraine (zoomed out on the map after searching so it gave me the whole country/I had to play with the dates a little as it seems this has been quite popular).

I picked somewhere in the south rather than Kiev as I thought that's where most people would probably pick. The one I picked actually mentioned about helping refugees.

Not the best explanation but let me know if you need any more help lol.

Fuel consumption over speed is not linear. the difference between 40mph and 50mph is not great that but 50-60 and 60-70 is higher This is due the the resistence in air pressure increases with speed. I have 4x4 2.0 Tdi Yeti (rural and semi mountainous) At 80k ph (50mph) I get around 22 km/ltr , at 110kph I get around 18 but at 130km (legal limit) on the Autostrada it drops to 12-14 km/ltr Rarely do that nowadays as I make sure I am not in a hurry. Usually stick at around 70mph with the cruise control on.
50mph is the most economical speed for me as any lower and I have to drop out of 6th gear which obviously increase consumption. If everybody stuck to 50 it would save a lot of fuel and surprisingly, if I recall correctly, research shows (I have no idea why) it also reduces 'phantom' traffic jams and improves traffic flow generally which in itself saves fuel not being stuck in jams going nowhere. Less pollutants too.

I managed to acquire half a dozen Dundee tops. No good to me so I sent them over to Ukraine to help out.
You’ll never believe it. They sent them back.

Thank you tekky, my post was more to do with how it will significantly impact Putin, which it won't (for reasons given above).

Anyways, i'm checking out of political debate on this here bbs for a while, some will be relieved :) I'm taking a leaf out of your book tekky. Big respect to all. This isn't a flounce by the way (i've only ever heard the term 'flounce' on here, and find it amusing, especially when someone has one). I think i just need a break from trying to find common ground on political issues when most of the time I feel like I'm off in Narnia somewhere and the person I'm speaking with is on the other side of the wardrobe. I'm sticking to comedy (terrible puns), lending an ear where I can, and footy :)

This.is due to the concept of bunching up. When people can travel at their own chosen speed (I.e. speed limit is 70 but lots of people ignore it) then you get people driving too close, bunching up, meaning they have to ride their brakes as they are tailgating. Each time they touch the brakes, the person behind if they are also too close has to touch theirs, etc. The concertina effect spreads back through a line of cars and you end up towards the back of the line with cars coming a halt. Phantom queue.

This is one of the benefits of the managed motorway segments. When the cameras show a building up of traffic density, stick a 50mph limit on the gantry, which is enforced by speed cameras, and everyone tootles along at 50mph. Suddenly, no need for the aggressive tailgating meaning less bunching and so fewer phantom queues. The traffic actually flows better. It does work. The logic is basically an antidote to the number of **** drivers we have.

As an aside, if they were to introduce such 50mph limits to save fuel, does this mean that EV drivers would be exempt from the limit? I have often wondered this when they put the 50 limit on the M1 near sheffield and the gantry matrix signs say "speed limit to improve air pollution" - am I exempt? :)

Personally, I have mixed views on constant 50mph on long journeys due to loss of concentration and monotony, but on the whole, pootling along with the cruise control set a 50mph on long stretches less wind/tyre noise and stereo playing favourite CDs OR MP3 is far less stressful than gunning it a 80+mph especially if everyone is doing the same and I am not spending my time checking Rear View and Driver's mirror constantly for tailgaters or cars blasting past. Then again we are retired so have plenty of time to plan journeys and are no longer in a hurry. When we were restoring the house here in Italy and both working full time living in UK we used to complete the 1200 mile journey with just one overnight stop (my wife won't drive with me as a passenger so I do all the driving). Since retiring we break the journey with two or even three overnighters.

I suppose it is different for people who have to travel for work. Too many though leave everything to the last minute and end up in a rush. Jams and accidents are usually the result of too many drivers in a hurry who drive aggressively and not defensively.

Don't get me wrong I love speed but get my speed kicks from F1 or Rally Sims or on the rare occasions I can, go karting (though the latter I am pretty naff at due to lack of practice) . Pushing the limits is for the race track NOT the roads.
