There’s no way you’ll get some of the morons driving up and down Dodworth High Street to slow down to 50

If we can’t do it for climate change I’m pretty sure we can’t do it for a war.
Or possibly we can? Perhaps some climate change deniers are looking to crush Putin!

I only said that we ought to go to a 50 mph limit like we did in 1974 during that oil crisis. I can't see BOJO the clown going for this.

Asking people to keep to 50mph to help 'defeat Putin' and linking it to climate change is just too convenient and wildly 'out there'. I think someone is having us on with this. Out of interest, if you do, why do you think this could work?

Driving at 50mph as opposed to 70mph uses less fuel and makes us need to import less.
Not sure why you’re angry about the suggestion, really?
If we limited all petrol/diesel vehicles to 50mph on all roads it would mean we used and therefore imported less fuel, and reduced emissions improving air quality and lowering CO2 emissions.

Surely it's pretty obvious that lowering consumption of gas and oil will have the potential combined effect of reducing emissions while also limiting the profits Russia gains from selling them to us.

in of itself it's obviously not going to stop Putin, however in war times, which I now think we're perilously close to being in, every bit helps. personally think anything we can do to stem the supply chain that leads to Russian oil, is worth considering. I can't see why people would be opposed to that. comes as no surprise that a Tory backbencher has come out with 'it's up to people to make their own decisions'. he probably owns a V8 Overfinch.

I think they are taking people for a ride with this one, my opinion. For those assuming I'm angry, I'm not. As mentioned on the UK gov website, 'Russia produces only a fraction of the fuel products currently imported to the UK.' What they are proposing would be a tiny drop in the ocean, it's so insignificant i'm surprised it's been published. UK to phase out Russian oil imports - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). Interestingly, 'The UK benefits from significant domestic production of oil and gas. More than two-thirds of our road fuel comes from domestic production.'

Actually it makes a very, very minimal difference compared to driving at lower speeds, which is where the worst fuel consumption is. This link is in km/h but you get the point.

this is the kind of thing the likes of farage might get behind. "are you tired of people telling you how fast to drive? do you want to take back control of your own decisions? join me now in saying NO MORE"

Probably not worth collecting stuff for somebody to take over in a van, they won't get on a ferry due to Brexit paperwork etc. Go to the Disasters Emergency Committee and donate some money. All donations will be matched by the Government. The money will be used wisely on your behalf.

Booked a night at an Airbnb in the south of Ukraine hosting refugees - $17.

Not going to go obviously, good way to support local people directly.
