I didnt see a poor Barnsley team tonight, I saw a well coached, organised, quality team playing with talent, fight, work ethic and heart. Well done Poya and the lads, I enjoyed my evening in Hull tonight. Good stadium as well and our travelling fans were a credit. We have recruited some good players in our squad. If we manage to stay up or even if its now too late these are players and a coach that should get our support. Remember Conway Lee and the recruitment team have put this squad together and it could be pretty good given time.
To be fair if Murphy hadn’t f’d off to Forest in the summer and Conwy hadn’t had to step in as CEO i think we’d be in a much better place. All our problems this season were down to poor recruitment in the summer. January seems to have been a better performance from the new CEO
The problem is that four high quality and key members of last nights team are loan players. Take them out and we have a very poor quality threadbare squad. What are the chances of any of them being here next year? The answer to that will be crucial to our success, whatever league we're in. Will the board splash the cash and would the players even want to stay?
Hoping your assessment is right and I get to see it for myself on Saturday at Oakwell. From red button Hull looked to hardly threaten first half, apart from that gift of a chance they squandered.. Judging from that one match, their new owners could have put them in trouble, changing manager like that.
"Remember Conway Lee and the recruitment team have put this squad together and it could be pretty good given time." Yes they have. That's why we are bottom of the Division with the worst side in the League, with a club in freefall on and off the pitch with a Coach out of his depth. Any chance of basing an assessment of the Regime on the last four seasons and making a judgement - rather than the last 4 days?
Think the original comment in the OP was misguided due to the fact we're bottom of the Championship. I wouldn't be heralding what we've put together this season purely based on last night. But I think you've also missed the mark as well. A significant number of supporters look at the last four years as a relegation that was looking likely under the previous owners, a phenomenal and exciting automatic promotion season, a frustrating but ultimately exciting last day survival season under Struber, and a season making the Championship Playoffs for the first time in 20 years. There's obviously a supplementary story to this that is littered with other issues, so I personally wouldn't subscribe to the above. Others will and do though. Plus players that supporters like, such as Madds, Helik, Styles, Morris and Brittain being brought to the club. As well as club captain Cauley Woodrow on a free transfer.
Three of the best players, Quina, Bassi and Gomes, are not ours. Without them we'd already be relegated and the 'good' squad would be anything but. This squad won't get time because it'll be broken up in the summer.
