Not every investment is with the first team in mind though, at any club not just ours, so I guess staying up that season - albeit rather fortunately - would deem those squad additions as a worthwhile investment. Especially when Chaplin and Wilkes broke even and you still have some of those ‘assets’ available. Madds is a class act. Collins has been superb. Those two alone in normal times would get you more than the £6 million outlay mentioned above - with two years of Championship football. Without operational mismanagement that would be three successive years of Championship football.
Barnsley FC are not self sufficient . They rely on between 10/12000 plus individuals agreeing to fund them every year.
I agree wholeheartedly they have been poor and I want them to leave. We just dont know all the facts. Im in management at work and some of our staff think some things we have to do is wrong and when we explain as much as we can they still dont get it, You cant give out all information and unless you are involved fully you dont know the full story. I also at work get things wrong now and again but i am still very good at my job.
Smoke and mirrors. Like i said they send out all the wrong signals for supporters even poyas young and cheap signings the other day just dont say it. The approaches for ground share with wigan (over a hour away) and Bradford (40minutes away) something not right with these owners.
You’ll find the facts in 'MONEYLAND’ - why thieves and crooks now rule the world and how to take it back. Oliver Bullough.
I just want us to try and sign players who give us the best chance of winning football matches. Not running a first squad as youth development centre. Also not taking money out of the club to pay for the club.
Self sufficiency in football is not being bankrolled by an owner. People paying to watch doesn't mean you aren't self sufficient.
Again, I’m not defending them, but they weren’t complaining that it cost £500k in the playoffs from the point of not wanting to be there. They were, quite rightly in my opinion, highlighting that the additional prize money you get for finishing in the playoffs is wiped out by the cost of hosting/playing the two additional games you play. If true, and maybe in non-Covid times with a 20,000 home crowd it wouldn’t be, then it’s a fundamental flaw with how the prize money is setup. Nothing wrong with saying that.
What’s to say a new owner(s) wouldn’t gamble? And secondly just about all businessmen who are successful would want there return back, the likes of Steve Gibson and Jack Walker are very few and far between
There isn't but I'd love to see any evidence that hosting one football match and playing one away costs half a million quid. That equates to around £13m a year just to play league games and cup games if we get knocked out early doors. And obviously that's just the immediate costs and not including any transfer fees signing on fees etc.and it isn't just the cost it's the negative AFTER ticket sales Sounds like rubbish to me
Because accounts aren't as healthy as they were and I don't think they could care less if we did. Administration doesn't stop them with any of their other business dealings. Probably paint it as the fans and councils fault it happened too.
The sad part about things at the minute and it really is sad, is how us the fans have been split. The owners have done a fantastic job of dividing us. How any body can defend the owners is beyond me, all it has been since they have taken over is bad decision after bad decision. OK Val was a successful head coach for the fans but not for the owners. Any football Club in the world that is self sustainable wouldnt gamble on an under 23 team in the fifth biggest league in Europe in hope of making player sales. Fans have been mentioning about not having the money to spend and I don't want to put us into debt, also the fact of the other point that has been raised. What is the point of spending money when we are going down, well who the hell is responsible for the mess this season if its not the owners. Sorry about the rant and this is my first post, I am just annoyed at the moment at how we are been run, but it will be OK if they buy some more clubs we will reap the reward
you see time and time again how bosses don't listen to their workers In the shop floor so to speak and carry on making the same mistakes because of it.
Your thought process on that is purely based on the basis you seem to have made your mind up there a set of corrupt ******** and seem to be following others that it’s cool to dislike the owners.........that’s my humble opinion anyhow
Was it? I thought part of it was the cost of only having 6,000 supporters, no away fans, and all the Covid restrictions and measures needed. I’ll stand down if I’m wrong on that but was my interpretation. Even if it was about player bonuses then it’s a fair comment and is our own fault from allowing daft contracts. You shouldn’t lose money for being more successful whatever the reason.
16,000 match day tickets at an average of £20 is £320k revenue. Plus corporate hospitality, additional catering sales, sponsorship costs, etc. Probably rounded up but we definitely lost out.
