In my 40's and 50,s I tended to stay in most New Years Eve.Now I'm at an age where I should be staying in I can't wait to go out.Only debate at the moment is do I wear jeans and a jumper or put my suit and tie on.? Barnsley the best town in the country get ready I'll not be long.
Funny. I think the same about Xmas. More fond of New Year myself although I am giving it a miss tonight
And now my wife has tested positive. Pretty likely I will be next. Not back at work until next Thursday but the rest of my holiday is now pretty much a write off. Happy New Year!
Got me reminiscing now, I used to be a regular in the Black Bull pub at Stairfoot right on the roundabout (now gone), As many as 30 of us all in fancy dress would start the evening in the public bar at Ardsley House (gone) then across the road to the Pheasant ( gone) then into Oaks WMC, (still here) then to the Coach and Horses ( gone) then to the. Cross Keys ( now McDonalds) then across to the Keel (thankfully still here) then up to the Low club At Stairfoot, which was actually called Ardsley WMC,(gone) then we would finish at the Black Bull. Onto the Roundabout to join hands for Auld Lang Sine. What an evening that used to be. Sadly Out of the 8 venues mentioned only 2 of them are still here.
Didn’t enjoy it in my 20s, certainly no desire to go out in my late 40s. Always full of amateurs who never go out getting all giddy like it’s their first time in the pub since last December 31st and being absolute annoying C U Next Tuesdays. Queues everywhere, grumpy bouncers, no seats, extortionate taxis and crap public transport. Been to a few house parties on the 31st, much more fun! Wife has tested positive today for Covid, so our modest plans to go to the neighbours for a curry have been scuppered. it was just a matter of time working on and off COVID ward at Fieldhead hospital for the last month it’s just a surprise it’s taken this long. Older kids are both out and my son is locked in his bedroom with the girlfriend, going to be Billy no mates tonight!
Wow that is quite a track record of visiting places only for them to close down. Could I ask of you to perhaps visit Dens Park, Ibrox and Celtic Park in the near future. I’ll even provide free B&B.
