seen some real ups and downs but I honestly can't remember a time when I felt more despondent about the club ,seeing the current owners sucking the lifeblood out of it with their bloody stupid theories that we all can see aren't working. I keep pretending to myself I don't care anymore, but I know I do really!
Same length of time, same feeling. Maybe it’s the gap between the premiership (div 1) and the championship (div 2). It feels like you’re watching a different game altogether and the gap is unbridgeable and we can’t even compete at the second level. The financial structure of the championship makes no sense at all. I don’t want my club to be a rich man’s toy, but if we don’t get that investment we can’t compete. I don’t know what the answer is. Maybe our level is mid table division 1? If that’s the case what happens to ambition? I hear the criticism of the board and the owners but nothing about what the alternatives might be. It seems to me that attacking the owners is attacking the club unless you have a better plan. I’ve been in crowds at Oakwell being less that 2000 and I always knew we were better than that. I thought we played well against Blackburn but I’m under no illusions they are better than us.
Probably sitting with the so called 'billionaires' currently in charge. Out of interest, how rich do you need to be to invest none of your own money?
The problem is that they intend to invest nothing. To be fair that has always been their stated policy. It is how we have wasted so much money on young European players, most of which have been rubbish, instead of using our youth academy system to sign big club's rejects & give them another chance & have a couple of experienced pro's to be their mentors on & off the field. All the good young players we have had have come that way. I'm trying to think of an exception. There's probably is one or two as my memory is shot. Dike was an overseas player, but we never had a cats of signing him really. Anyone name anyone else? (And by that I mean signed from an overseas club, not a foreign national that has not played English football). I also mean since the new owners have arrived & the "Plan". I'm not a racist. If we were Man City & signing De Bruyne, cool, just a massive jump for a young player to hit the ground running. If Gomes was up for sale at a reasonable price he'd be OK if he worked with our academy for a year with the occasional start / sub appearance. Loan signings with his experience level are less than useless in the Championship. The "plan" needs to be revised. Working with youth, with a couple of experienced pro's wasn't far off what worked for Alex Ferguson. We are just doing it the wrong bloody way & most people can see it other than our owners.
How many good young uns in the academy set up are being overlooked by the spreadsheet, signing oversea players who couldn't give a **** about where this club ends, other than looking for the next contract. At least the academy boys lacking in experience wouldn't lack the hunger and passion to wear the shirt. Maybe maybe in league one they may get a chance. I'm not holding my breath.
JP - If we can't beat a pub side like Barrow we may as well get rid of the manager and let me or you have a go, then again we are not much more than a pub side anyway atm so I am not even confident in terms of actually winning this game
I think we all care ... i’m just at a point where I refuse to let it spoil my life, so I deliberately switch off from it. It’s a bit like turning the news off, (which i do frequently). Life is too short to overdose on miserable news. I just avoid it.
We need to be a bit wary of getting all Wednesday about Barrow being a pub side. It's not at all beyond the realms of possibility that, unless the slide is arrested, that in approx 17 months time, we too could officially be a pub side.
I'm actually looking forward to the Barrow game because hopefully Poya will feel confident enough to play his version of winning football which I've yet to see any indication of.
