SYP really don't help themselves do they. You would want to be seen as a friendly and welcoming town that believes the huge majority of adults want to behave that way and mix. You make situations worse like when Hull fans got off in Chappletown. What if away fans get off the train at say Dodworth? It doesn't make sense. Seeing home fans only signs outside pubs should always be a no no.

Agree. By asking away fans to drink out of town, you just spread issues and therefore resources further out.

Like folk say - Penistone or Dodworth could then be busy.

When I lived in Pontefract. There were some home games where I didn't fancy Barnsley and would stay in Pontefract until 2pm and then get the train to Wakefield Kirkgate and change there and arrive at Barnsley just before kick-off. I've also gone to Castleford and drank there until 1.30 pm as well. Plenty of places to sup that aren't that far away if you're that desperate for a pre-match drink. I've even had a few in Wakey on Saturdays too.

I just don't understand SYP's aim here - why take that stance? Let's have a look at the negatives:

    1. Encourages away fans to needlessly pile into outlying villages and towns, potentially causing disruption there. So not saving any police resources.

    2. It loses much-needed revenue for the town centre

    3. It's patently untrue and makes our fans and town look like thugs.

    And now the positives:

    ...

It's like they deliberately try to be the shittest police force in the country.

Agree with the above, but maybe @MRC has a valid point?

If me and Laura were out Christmas shopping with George we wouldn't want it potentially spoilt by the Neanderthal element that every football club possesses. That said we wouldn't go shopping on a matchday. What am I talking about? Give your head a shake man.

Whilst I don't agree with having to keep your head down, Huddersfield fans will have no problem anywhere in town I reckon if they behave. Might mean covering up colours, but most pubs in town have a home fans only policy, and I've often seen opposition fans in there.

I meet up with my Wednesday supporting family in Bramah's most seasons (when we're not a division above them ), and spoken to Stoke, Middlesbrough and Millwall fans in pubs around town, without an ounce of trouble.

Part of the problem is, if the police treat everyone like a criminal, then they'll just end up causing trouble. But I suppose every club has its idiots who don't mind ruining the experience for the common man.

It's important that the 'Top Hooligan Firm' in Yorkshire holds onto that mantle. 50 years of watching the Reds have demonstrated to me that no-one can compete with SYP when it comes to physical violence and intimidation. Of course they are not going to want Huddersfield here.

I've mentioned it before. The last away game I went to in a group was Luton away in 2007. We went into a pub, had a drink and then one of lads introduced himself to the travelling South Yorkshire police so we were rounded up and taken to the ground and had to drink in the 5hit holes there. I was enjoying the few I had in Luton Town centre. That is part of the away day I look forward to the most. Then after the game we were marched back to the train station and marshalled onto the first trains back up North. Not a great day apart from the result.

I vowed I'd keep my head down and attend away games by myself when I could after that.

Must admit Ponte and Cas wouldn’t be my first choice to drink pre match , unless you are from Ponte or Cas

How Rude! Cas is a place of great repute, with , I might add, the finest Fish & Chip shop in Yorkshire.....which means the world!

I just used to get fed up of the Courthouse, up to the White Bear. Across to the Bramah then up to Chennell's or Shakespeare. Eventually I stopped drinking with those lads made an excuse and went straight to the Mount. I couldn't be arsed walking about and wanted to be nearer the ground. Then I got bored with that and started going through to Cas.

Since I've lived in Rotherham. I drink in the County and set off later and maybe have a couple in Mount when I get to Barnsley.

A kid I know who catches same bus into Greasbrough as me some evenings asked me how to get to Pontefract last night. Bemused I enquired what he wanted to go there for. He told me he just fancied a change and a ride through to get some Pontefract Cakes. I told him how to get there and what a chore it is and how there's naff all there. He wasn't vexed at all. He said it's only place he hasn't been to round here.

My brother is a Huddersfield fan but I will still be having a beer with him in town before the kick off. He probably knows town better than most as he worked in the pits around the area and spent most of his down time drinking/socialising on an evening in Barnsley. I will just make sure he keeps his jacket zipped up :D
