In real life, the day Barnsley football club plays it’s games in Rotherham, Bradford or any other town, is the day Barnsley no longer has a football club.

The would obviously be massive resistance to sharing another club’s ground, but how would we feel about a new purpose-built stadium away from Oakwell?

Big yes from me. Like the Palace of Westminster, Oakwell holds a whole load of history but now needs replacing with something more appropriate and accessible.

Absolutely no chance under this ownership though.

As long as it’s in Durkar I wouldn’t object

I thank the Cryne's and the Council for separating the two entities so that we can have this discussion.

It would depend on where the new ground was. I also wouldn't be averse to knocking the stadium down and rebuilding on the same site and temporarily playing elsewhere like Spurs did. Clearly wouldn't happen though.

But if the club / council / Crynes can't figure out a way of getting the necessary work and modernisation done to the stadium, the club is only going to go in one direction.

I follow Barnsley F.C. The 11 on the pitch. I don't care where they play. I'd rather that be in Barnsley but don't really care if it isn't. Once the club became just the playing side it was pointless wasting energy worrying if it will play at Oakwell.

It hasn't been detrimental to Doncaster or Rotherham moving grounds. In fact Rotherham's situation was a bit similar to ours. They didn't own the ground.

Any Barnsley XI that plays their home games outside of Barnsley, it no longer becomes Barnsley Football Club. In my humble opinion

Agree, plus any club that is willing to move their team the best part of an hour away from their home, purely to get one over the ground owners, is beyond contempt if you ask me.

Not everyone has the means and finances to be commuting that far and a football club should be looking to support the least well off in the community not totally alienate them.

    Agreed 100% mate.

I travelled many miles (from Birmingham and Reading) to watch our home games for nearly 30 years. Now I've retired I can walk to Oakwell in under 20 minutes. I won't be travelling elsewhere should we play our games outside Barnsley

Coventry had a bumpy ride when they lost their historical home at Highfield Road. They had a shiny new bowl to move into but disputes soon had them leaving and they had to go and play in Northampton. CH scored his first goal for us there and this was a period when the Coventry fans were boycotting the club, similar to what Blackpool went through. Another move followed, sharing St Andrews.

Worrying times for all but look at those two clubs now. The Sky Blues have their 20,000 crowds back, Blackpool are on the rise and everything looks much better.

My point is that moving to another ground is not the end of a football club. I’d be sorry to never go to Oakwell again but I’d keep going anyway. It’s the team that matters, not who is running the show. Sometimes we have to go down to become stronger. I’ve long accepted that this is how it is following BFC.

I agree. We've benefitted from a master-reset twice before in 2013/14 and 17/18. It's a shame the upturns are so short lived though.

During those periods away from home or boycotting games, fans have jacked in football altogether and quiet a lot of youngsters who would have been introduced to watching their local (in name only) side have probably been introduced to other pastimes, so not all worked out well in that sense, yes the football club is still there but not with as many supporters as there could have been.

I know what you mean but it doesn’t always have a major impact. During Coventry’s top flight years they had big crowds. The majority temporarily deserted them during their homeless period but they’re back now. Doing well in the league, crowds around 20k. All I’m saying is that football fans are fickle wherever you look. It’s easy to say “that’s it, I’m finished with them” when things are going badly but they all come back when the wheel turns the other way. It’s always been so and always will be.

Rotherham’s ground is still fairly central, Donny’s is a right walk from town centre but so was their previous ground so not much difference there. Those that don’t want to go to Oakwell, then don’t, Leave the club where it is, There’s plenty of room for upgrades if/ when the time comes. Fek off to catching 2 buses to a motorway intersection out of town.

For now at least my home towns are Harrogate and Torrevieja. Forget the Spanish location - they play at a sports complex similar to the BFC academy but Harrogate is a nice little ground. Go on Mr Conway - give them a call!!

By ending any interest in owning their own ground are the 80%ers effectively setting us up to becoming the next "Franchise FC" and moving out of town a-la MKD or selling us on to someone else with the same idea?
