"Poya Asbaghi was known as the new Graham Potter in Sweden because of his playing style. Barnsleys Iranian born manager 36 shocked fans and media with his heavily passing based style when he was at Gothenberg and earned the title. One Swedish expert said "Poya will either be a spectacular success or a massive failure with the way he plays in truth he was even more possession based than Potter "
Oh lovely. Square passes, **** all happening until we give it away and concede every 20 mins or so. What is it that our owners aren’t getting? Do they think if they pass it around prettily to no effect - and finish 20 points below everyone else except Derby - the players will be worth more to sell? Completely blinkered. We don’t need Graham Potter’s style, we need a Graeme Souness in the middle to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Show some ambition, man. Finishing top of the passing stats table would be a huge achievement. And it would probably help boost our Entertainment Index score too!
Fantastic, I expect more fannying around at the back while the opposition don't even press but just wait for one of our back 3 to **** up (guaranteed to happen) by passing the ball straight to them. Don't give a **** about possession, it's what we do in the opposition half.
If he comes into this league and tries to win a relegation scrap with a possession based game, he won’t get another job in this country again. Hopefully he’s more pragmatic than that.
He has only got to read the BBS & learn from the experts on here , he can throw his coaching manuals out of the window , some of the top coaches from the BBS have already written his style of play off without seeing a team of his play, so bearing in mind the vision & expertise that requires, then the easy answer to his problems are for him to post on here requesting advice , job sorted .
We can’t write off his style of play because we’ve not seen it yet. But do you think we’ll win many if we set out to try and dominate possession? I’m doubtful, but at the same time I’m also doubtful that he’ll try.
I think this is the fastest this forum has written off a manager. Even Schopp was afforded 2 games (neither of which we lost).
To be honest I will not form an opinion of his style or approach until I have actually seen it, & I will reserve judgement of that until he has had a few matches & some time with the players , I also hope that whatever style he adopts that he also has a plan b & a plan c & that he is not a one trick pony & make changes to style & system should a game require it, basically flexible , we shall see .
Great Post! .....and as we all know know there are plenty on here who are qualified enough to do the job.
