How many of those came at major championships, as opposed to qualifying games vs lesser sides?

We've only really moved on in the last few years when all those so called "greats", like Beckham have retired. I rest my case.

I agree with you & with all the things he has had to put up with this season I think he is indeed doing a good job & the old saying credit where credit is due . I will say something which will not go down well that I would take him at a breath here , he has cut his teeth , he knows the league well & he will have great contacts within the game but more to the point he now has experience of handling a club through stormy waters , I know its never going to happen but we could end up with a lot worse than our Wayne.

But you don't read the quotes from Rooney and think the players will get the hump with them, whereas you could with Schopp. I think the problem was, and this may well be down to him having to work in a second language, was how he would detatch himself from things going wrong. He'd say "they know what they need to do", "they didn't do this", whereas Rooney at least includes himself as "we". Then he would start to single players out, particularly referring to replacing Palmer with Hondermarck. He pretty much publically slated them.

Towards the end of his time here, Schopp did start to acknowledge responsibility. Maybe he assumed that was a given, but on the whole, his interviews weren't great.

I disagree. Rooney has badly criticised his players there. They may react negatively, or being older than our lot, they may take it on the chin. He may have talked collectively for Iseka's goal, but its obvious who has switched off. That he hasnt directly named them makes little differece really. The individual will know who he meant.

I thought Derby played ok. There certainly wasn't a lot between the teams, so for him to have a go at his entire team doesn't seem right to me.

I don't think your second paragraph (which I agree with in the main) has any bearing on your first statement that Rooney didn't do much at international level. The current team are much stronger than the team Rooney was in. They come across better as human beings too. I think your dislike of him and his generation of England players is clouding your judgement. But fair enough.

Not shown enough yet for me. Derby fans dont think he's done well with the younger players like Sibley for eg.

What did they achieve at international level, other than abject failure?

Thats fine, we all have our opinions, I just think that he was not allowed to make any signings & only a couple of weeks before the season started he did not have enough players to turn a team out & then they were quite rightly docked 12 points , it was followed by a predictable bad start & yet by fetching in out of work players etc he has put a team out that if they had won last night would have been off the bottom . I also think that Rooney has kept his council & got on with the job , he would not be my personal choice but he is no mug & we could easily set on worse.

But your initial statement, that I didn't agree with, was that Rooney had a nothing international career. I pointed out he scored over 50 goals. I'm not saying Beckham et al were part of a great team and era. Different arguments.
