The council statement was clear and unambiguous. The club statements have been vague and non-specific. Even if, as has been suggested, the club might have done its own report that conflicts with the council's report, there is no reason not to share the specifics with the fanbase - especially with the ST holders directly affected. The reason they haven't done so is because they can't. They have no facts to share. Closing the West Stand is a business decision, pure and simple, but they haven't the balls, the common sense, or the basic human decency to say so.
The Landlord is the Local Authority, Crynes haven’t said owt and Dan Jarvis knows sod all about the West Stand
A council (through it's officers) does not make capricious statements. The comments will have been an extreme measure. In any event, the council has democratic legitimacy, given the numbers who will have voted those councillors in. While some will make silly and barbed comments about councillors, their role is a (mostly - below cabinet level) unpaid and thankless task. While I may disagree with individual positions and actions, I believe the majority of councillors stand for office to put something back into their communities and to make life better for those they represent. It is hard to escape the conclusion that the club is playing silly games here. If the aim is to slim down the occupied sections of the ground in order to reduce costs, then say so. Your motives would not then be doubted, even if your actions were not met with agreement. If this is part of a bigger game to reduce the cost of acquiring the club after the fact, then that is a position of less integrity. If I know one thing about Barnsley folk, it is that they do not appreciate a lack of honesty and transparency. The club needs to try a little harder to prove that there is not such a deficiency.
Exactly. I thought the consortium would've had enough experience to realise that by now. Ever since 'best transfer window ever' there's been the sense they think any old hyperbole will be swallowed up and fans will back whatever's done in the name of 'the club'. It wouldn't surprise me if someone told them European soccer fans from a C2/DE demographic are the worlds most brand loyal customers with poor education, so not to worry.
“A council (through it's officers) does not make capricious statements “ I think a few Residents Associations and Campaign Groups might disagree with that statement
Maybe statements they disagree with, but I doubt they would be capricious. In any event, nothing to do with the topic under discussion.
I think you've got a very rosy view of local councillors there mate. My impression is much different. Maybe the truth falls somewhere inbetween.
Don't get me wrong mate, I'm not saying I agree with everything they do. But from councillors I've known there is more work to be got through than most people realise, and a phenomenal amount of material to be read by the diligent ones, which in my experience is the majority. I don't think any of them start out from the position that they're going to throw spokes through the wheels of the local football club.
That is not the case, they as in the people who haven't paid for the club yet 4 years on... Have not had their own people in.
At least our owners have paid for the club in full, after "taking over" 4 years ago. Ah right. They haven't.
