I'm certain (forgive my memory) that Patrick's brother did/does the role in whatever the correct job description is.

Is this still the case? I seem to remember he was something like Stadium Manager, Safety Officer or something of that ilk.

Just wondered if anyone knows/recalls or if I've just totally made it up.

No he was/is the stadium manager I think*. The guy whose team is responsible for the maintenance etc. There's a separate safety manager role. Cant remember his name.

*if he's still at the club.

Wasn't the safety officer the ex copper who was caught up in the Hillsborough trial?

Paul Davis is the new safety officer. Ex Rotherham (I think).

Steve Howard used to have the role. Ex policeman, very highly regarded, but not involved in Hillsborough.

He's off to a flyer isn't he. Been here 2 months and overseen the closure of half of Oakwell in the name of safety and I mean the district not just the stadium.

Bit of a conclusion to jump to. It could be said that he’s righting the wrongs of the previous incumbent. From that time we got fined?

I have absolutely no idea either way. Nor do I fully understand exactly what this role involves and how much sway they have.

Eh? I didn't jump to any conclusions. There's no conclusions at all in my post

"off to a flyer" normally implies some form of blame.

I assume sarcasm isn't a word you're familiar with. The blame lies squarely with the owners but come on, his new job hasn't exactly got off to the best of starts has it. That doesn't mean it's his fault, there's lots of people who were hired in the hospitality industry a while back who's job didn't exactly get off to the best starts when they were sent home due to pubs being closed but mentioning it isn't blaming them either.

And no that isn't an anti lockdown comment it was just an example I could think of where people didn't get off to a flyer in their new job for reasons nothing to do with them. I'm pretty sure if you were to ask the new guy how he thinks his new job has gone he'd tell you he's had a nightmare introduction.
