I just received my brand new and improved Health insurance card its much better than the old EHIC as for a start is Global rather than just European so next time I am travelling in Asia or the Americas I look forwards to all the extra benefits it will gain. Also I particularly like instead of being boring and blue like the old card its now Red white and blue with the union flag as the whole back drop and even has a Union flag as part of the Hologram I particularly like the inclusivity in the fact that the Number now starts UK instead of the old divisive GB I'm looking forward to paying for my new UK car sticker as well to replace the boring old GB already paid for on my number plate or maybe I will shell out for 2 brand new number plates with flags on as well It wont be at all embarrasing to use it I still need to replace my passport though maybe I should do it early so I dont have that horrid burgundy one made by some losers in the North East of England anyomore, but have the great patriotic blue (well black really) passport made by the French in errr hang on ...
Got my new passport last week, looking forward to the opportunity to stand in endless airport queues with it. I am seriously considering paying to get my ancestory proof and apply for an Irish passport, my grandmother was born in Dublin.
first time I've heard of this. just had a look. hopefully I never have to take it out of my wallet. ever.
I wish I had that option unfortunately all my grandparents were born in Yorkshire - and I never thought I would see that as a bad thing
Never thought I'd see something which actually made me glad, even for a moment, that I don't have the time to go on holiday!
I’ve just seen the design of the new GHIC, and I feel so inspired that I’m tempted to drive down to Dover and shout obscenities across the channel at the French.
Geniune question.. what does the GHIC entitle you to now? Has anything changed from the EHIC? Or should i say what arent we entitled to now that we were previously..
Isn’t it less? I thought GHIC now excluded certain countries, previously covered under EHIC, e.g. Norway, Switzerland etc. could be wrong though. Either way, there’s fk all ‘global’ about it. Despite the flag-shagging on the card.
You are right of course it only applies to EU countries - the following countries were covered with the inferior European card but are not covered by the superior global British card Norway Iceland Liechtenstein Switzerland - yet another of the countless benefits we have
I've got my Irish passport. Unfortunately, the wife can't get one. So she'll be stuck in queue while I saunter through
I find it really interesting hearing them banging on about how it will all lead to a higher-waged, higher-skilled, economy (although this will take an unspecified amount of time). I must have missed that bit during the referendum debates. Not that they would stoop to retro-fitting. Of course not.
EHIC was pretty crap anyway. Gave people a poor excuse for some to travel without arranging proper travel insurance, then they act surprised on channel 5 when they get hit with a big hospital bill saying they thought because we were in the EU they got the same as our NHS.
Most travel policies request you have a EHIC/GHIC in addition though as it means they dont need to pay for things already agreed to be paid by the reciprocal agreements
