Haven’t seen a thread on golf over the weekend, but I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out who might automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup and I now feel like I need to join Markus Schopp for a sit down in the dugout. More possibilities and complications than the end of a Championship season. Not just in terms of who qualifies automatically after today’s golf but how that will impact on the Captain’s Picks. Liverpool v Leeds, the golf, Monza, NFL Red Zone, Yorkshire Cricket, Trinity at Leigh, keeping an eye on the BBS meltdowns. Busy day on the sofa ahead!

I’m on the F1 at the minute but Rose could still win (long shot) and Lowry looks like getting in to the automatics places. Westwood had a horror show today and will be relying on a pick. Feel Poulter will be the likely one to miss out but what he brings to the ‘dressing room’ can’t be ignored. Same for Westwood as well to be fair who’s a future captain in years to come
Rose going well, Westwood going backwards, Poulter is Mr Ryder Cup. He’s the type of character we need in the team especially playing on US soil.
I can’t keep up but Weisseburger and Lowry both fallen back so no idea what that does for Westwood. Rose needed a win which he isn’t getting, but the other possibilities are still in the air? Need commentators to explain but too busy getting annoyed at Max driving like an amped up teenager…..
I saw earlier that Westy is in the 9 because of the world points list. Rose is in too I think. Lowery out as it stands. Harrington names his team @1930 live on SS Golf, channel 405
Basically if Wiesburger finishes in the top 50 today he qualifies automatically . I think Westwood misses out.
Don’t think it was as clear cut as that for Westy. When his round finished it was very much touch and go and he said he wouldn’t even be paying attention and would find out in the morning where his next game of golf will be. I’m sure Rose needed a win to guarantee a place automatically.
I think this where we’re at….. 9 Qualifiers: Jon Rahm Tommy Fleetwood Tyrrell Hatton Bernd Wiesberger Rory McIlroy Viktor Hovland Paul Casey Matthew Fitzpatrick Lee Westwood Fitzpatrick squeezes in with Westwood and Lowry drops out. Captain to pick three from Rose, Lowry, Poulter and Garcia. That’s a really tough call to make but it’s two from Rose, Garcia and Poults.
Bit disappointing that Garcia wasn’t at Wentworth. Had he already been given the nod he was in after some recent decent form? Rose, Garcia and Lowry for me. All major champions. Poulter would be a nostalgic choice but not a form pick.
Probably the toughest Captain’s Pick in my lifetime. What Poults gives the team is more than just the golf and he’d likely only play the last day so could be used sparingly. I can’t imagine not taking Sergio, Lowry is the one in form, and Rose is just a superb Links player and should suit Whistling Straits.
I think Sergio is as well thought of within the group. Just not by the fans. On that basis you can’t leave Sergio out either
