Sounds like it’s close to happening. Seems to have come out of the blue a bit, or have I just not been paying attention? Man Utd fans raging on Twitter already. I hope it happens just for that reason. £20 million transfer fee and he’ll become the highest earning player in the Premier League supposedly.
Ar John, laikin wi arguably the greatest player of our generation (although I would personally give that honour to Messi)
There a striker short at minute if he signs and they don't win the league by some way guardiola wants sacking
It's probably as a much a case of preventing him signing for United or any of the other PL challengers
Just like Winnall and Sheff Weds and us. Then Ronaldo can rot in the reserves !! Or we could take him on loan, all this buddy-buddy between Pep and Schopp.
Seems an odd one if true. Doesn't really suit city's style of play and is unlikely to be happy being subject to Pep roulette. And although it's probably not a major issue, being a former man u player and seemingly still having some affection for the club may also complicate things.
Do you honestly think that's all he will be paid a week? Will be on atleast triple that after taking in bonuses, appearance fees and not to mention his signing on fee. More than likely get his house and cars paid for too. Ridiculous money, for anyone. Let alone a 36 year old. Although still a brilliant footballer. Juventus paid about 90 million to win the Champions league and failed. Pep has no excuses not to win it now, if this deal comes off.
Merch though innit? They reckon PSG will be well up on the Messi deal by the time they’re You’re not just getting a great player, you’re getting the ‘brand’ too. Millions of shirts all over the world at £60 a pop? Ker-ching!
They have no strikers, there are 2 working days left in the window. They can sign an all time great on a short term deal with a negligible transfer fee to tide them over until they go all in for Haaland next summer when his release clause activates and they'll make tens of millions from shirts/endorsements in the meantime. It makes perfect sense.
He will just have his wages at Juventus matched. https://metro.co.uk/2021/08/25/cris...ity-reject-juventus-transfer-demand-15153648/ If he doesn't score a goal all season he will be worth it on shirt sales alone and at the end of that 12 month deal they can use the profit on the Ronaldo deal towards getting Haaland cheaper next summer than what he would have cost this.
I agree it would be a good deal. However, I think it's over the top to suggest they have no strikers. Jesus is a striker. Torres also plays there. Pep also likes playing De bruyne and sterling as false nines. They did it last year without Aguero so can't see it being as big of an issue as people make out if they don't sign one.
Jesus has said he prefers playing on the wing, Torres isn't primarily a striker either. They won the league last year because everyone else was a bit cack. The other teams will be stronger competition this year.
It’ll be a tougher league for them this season though. Liverpool have Van Dijk back, along with Gomez/Matip and have signed another centre half. Chelsea will start this season with Tuchel and look like they’ll carry on as they left off. I don’t think United will challenge whilst ever Solskjaer is the manager, but they’ve improved their team with Varane and Sancho.
Be easiest gig he got city. All he'd need to do is stand in box and put ball in net after Grealish and KDB pass it to him
Not heard that from Jesus but doesn't really matter where he wants to play. But yeah other teams will be stronger. Still think they'd win league regardless of whether they sign a new striker though. Be interesting to see how they use Ronaldo if he does sign, still seems an odd fit to me.
Agree it will be tough and perhaps that's what's driving the signing. I still don't think city desperately need a striker tpersonally. Gonna be an interesting signing if it comes off though. Looking likely at min too.
