After tonights defeat and the tippy tappy style which opitomised our first half display M Schopp will have learned a few lessons too. What works in the Austrian league may not work here in the championship. Sometimes the direct approach has to be applied has to be applied. Let's hope M Schopp is a fast learner and that our walking wounded ie Kane,Mads, Morris and the two belguim league players can be utilised soon to better effect than Odour and Freiser playing off Cauley which I never felt was going to work. Early days but lessons learned.
Does worry me that he came from a club that never had any expectations of winning football. Think Brad Collins went up for the corner tonight after being told by the crowd and not Schopp.
Long way to go. We've played 3 different styles in 3 games. Best performance by a mile was Cardiff. I'm not sure on the other two which was better / worse, other than the points count. We played badly against Coventry & won with a battling performance. Tonight we played some nice football till the final third after a poor opening & looked more like the Barnsley of old, i.e. loads of possession but no killer instinct / pressure on the opposition. badly missing Morris & Dike.
Nothing wrong with our style. With players of the quality of Bensen and Palmer it would be a tragedy to boot it up and bypass them. Our strikers had no movement, showed no intelligence and were out fought to every ball. If we can get our forwards fit and firing this is a very good team
Think it was probably Brad's decision. He's definitely becoming the goalie I thought he could be when we bought him.
Made 2 good saves last neet but also been involved in 2 mix ups at the back in the 2 home games. Last season when you thought he would **** up as sweeper keeper he didn`t.
id forgot about that - best bit was when they cleared ball and he continued to stay on other half and we were seemingly playing 'goaly when' What are the rules in the game on goalkeeper nomination? quick search...> Changing the goalkeeper Any of the players may change places with the goalkeeper if: the referee is informed before the change is made the change is made during a stoppage in play
maube we shoudl look at swapping goaly for corners and free kicks with a capable goaly shortarse? never seen anyone do that before. Boby Hassel wasn't big but he was good in nets.
This is the drawback of having a different head coach every season. We learn the same lessons over and over again and we can be off the pace until they do. I thought the high press was part of our DNA though.
I've mentioned it just about every season. Theres this underlying notion of continuity put forward each time. Each coach has been completely different to whats gone before and their preferences of formation have often been different too. There was talk of some sort of Barnsley FC DNA profile that Patrick documented years ago at the start of the shift in recruiting pattern. I don't think the press is part of Barnsley DNA. Effort yes, so you could loosely argue the press could fit into that, but I think what is more true over our history is being on the front foot. Being expansive and aggressive with the ball and commonly having an aerial threat with two wingers and a midfield happy to drive forward, individually or collectively. I suspect it's not easy to get across to people who have never witnessed what our DNA is, especially to people who don't know football particularly well. But we endure ever decreasing periods of coaches in charge with fundamentally different styles and ideals from one to the next. If that isn't crazy, I'm not sure what is.
