First game back at Oakwell tonight ;was on holiday at the weekend). Does anyone know if card/contactless payments are accepted in the ground for a beer?

I don’t mind paying cash but will mean I have to stop somewhere on my way to the ground as I don’t usually have cash on me, with so many places accepting card payments. Even our ice cream man accepts card payments!

Thanks, a bit disappointing that we haven’t moved into the 21st century, but the answer I was expecting. I assume they’ll be a reason behind it.

It's one thing that still baffles me, and one of the few criticisms I have of our club.

My mate who's in a band, who plays in front of 30 people at a time, can accept card payments for merch. But a 2nd tier football club still can't.

It will all be down to cost won't it? Don't they have to pay a percentage of the takings if it's all on card?

There are no charge ones available now. Not sure how it works but my mate runs a sandwich shop and they have one.

You either pay a subscription fee or a percentage of payment. As I said on another thread though, if they already have more customers than stock then there’s no advantage to them, sod us.

If I could change one thing about the matchday experience it would be the entire catering setup. It's an absolute mess. Could serve twice as many people with a few common sense changes.

I mentioned on another thread. Sat I got a pint and a coffee £6, beer was warm and coffee was only just warm. Took exchanged coffee for another warm coffee. Maybe the kids selling it aren't allowed to handle hot liquids.

You can pay cash on the gate. That’s progress in my book.. :)

Prime example. East lower. We built a new catering stall in the middle of the stand a couple of years ago. There are two side by side, one doe beer one does refreshments. Except the beer one does refreshments too. Beer one sits empty at half time every match, one directly next to it has a queue that they don't get through in the 15 minutes. Why they built two separate ones (bizarrely with different designs) next to each other is beyond me. Should be one long bar so they don't have some poor lass running around and another twiddling her thumbs

I think that's actually one of the many issues! Employ a lot of young staff and appear to give them little support or training. Just chuck em in at deep end.

Will used to work at Elland Road occasionally whilst at uni (before I met him). He was just registered with an agency who would call him up and ask if he fancied working that day and if he did he’d just turn up, someone there would take him to his counter and that was basically it.

Bizarre. Although I need to find this beer stand which doesn't have a queue...

East stand lower tier. It's always completely empty

Sure Gllay posted just in last couple of days, that catering is now in house as of this season.

Bearing in mind we have had one game at home, I wouldn't have expected everything to be sorted from day one. It could (and appeared to) be slightly worse, initially.

However I'm sure the club will get there.

They have card terminals in the club shop, so it may be tied contractually already what they can do. Who knows. And, no such thing as a card terminal that is free (from above)

The club knows where things need improving, but they only have limited resources (including people) to implement it all.

And we want to sign/retain the best we can right?

We can expect it all done straight away....

Yeah, but you also have to pay a percentage of the takings when you pay cash in to a business account, assuming they're not paying players with briefcases full of £20 notes. I doubt they'll be taking it down to the post office themselves either, so whichever security company picks up the cash will get their cut as well. And then there's usually an extra charge for change.

Cash is only really cheaper than card if you can pay suppliers, staff etc directly with it.

I know that at work they have to pay for the cash handling but it's cheaper to do that than it is to pay the card fees. But then they aren't very good at finding the best deal
