On a Coventry forum someone states they were serious health and safety issues with the ground and that the game was very much in doubt Not sure if this is complete rubbish but it does tie up with the be fact you cannot purchase tickets for west stand
To be honest, I 'm one of the few people in town who believe that we should demolish the West Stand and be a 3 sided ground. Move things over to the East Stand. It's a drain on resources for whoever owns the stadium, clear the site in preparation for one day, when a replacement stand can be erected.
Whether this is true or not, I sincerely hope some serious brass gets spent on the ground this season, even the newer stands are looking tired and certain aspects of it really aren't fit for purpose.
I'm guessing that the West Stand has failed a safety inspection. It's a pity but not a terminal problem, we have sufficient capacity in the rest of the ground for this season at least. Sad for the iconic old stand but maybe it's time to redevelop it.
Just close the upper tier? Shift directors to East Stand/one of the poshlad box seats? Surely the lower is fine, it's just concrete and seats.
I can only agree but to be honest some of it does add up ( not being able to purchase tickets in west stand ) making the game all ticket when the west stand was nearly empty and still a number of tickets available elsewhere Might be complete rubbish but the club haven’t gave a reason for these decisions
Take the roof off and turn it into a good old-fashioned open air stand. Then stick the away fans in it.
Maybe it's no longer rolling on? Maybe it's sorted? The owners don't need to tell us everything, as much as we'd like to know...
Chickens coming home to roost? West Stand needed flattening 5/10/15/20 years ago, its just been left like an unwanted turd in the swimming pool for someone else to sort out, well now its threatening the whole pool with closure. No room for sentimental ******, the first BFC game I ever saw I was in the West Stand, 40 years ago, so what? Knock it the fk down.
The club’s had a year to deal with any issues with the west stand. As much as I love it, I can’t believe we get away with a largely wooden stand in the modern age. Maybe it is time to respectfully retire the old girl & build a new one along the same design principles.?
Well I've got a season ticket for the west stand upper and I've not been told my seat won't be available for tomorrow.
Before we all ride off in the wrong direction…. These same rumours about the West stand were out a year ago too and gained currency; And I know for a fact that at that point, there were no serious structural concerns, only asbestos or somesuch downstairs in a closed off area. Now I don’t know what any structural assessment may have said this year and I don’t know what different peoples agendas may be……
