Well done Cameron. Keep pushing lad. But like SD says, a bit top heavy. Need to move Victor and Miller on.
We need to try and balance the squad now. I'd be happy with a left back. Part of me wants to see a creative midfielder brought in though.
I think the logic will be that strikers have the greatest potential markup if you find one that develops into a saleable asset. Greater potential reward for the investment
We’ve gone from offloading to overloaded. There’s only so many bullets you can fit in a gun. Victor & George Miller deserve a fresh start. Give them to Donny or Rovrum..
I can partly see that logic, but in application it falls down. Firstly, you have so many forwards that you can't play them all, or you share the minutes round nominally. If a handful do work out to be potential assets, you've then got large numbers of players who you are stuck with or have to pay off, and also considering any paid fee that is written off and accrues a loss. Any profits are very swiftly watered down by losses on the others. You've also got potential management issues of not being able to keep all the players happy. If you loan them out, you've lost a year of contract and their value is depreciating all the time and are they managed as you would like at arms length. Call me old fashioned, but balance is largely a good thing and it's evident to everyone that in terms of forwards, balance is nowhere to be seen.
In isolation, it makes sense. When you consider we've 14 or so forwards, some we've loaned out (one without even getting in a matchday squad), it then starts to make less sense.
But surely if we see him as a potential first team player in the future it's worth giving him a year? Doesn't mean we expect to him make matchday squads straight away and therefore he wouldn't be reducing the opportunities of current first teamers. Agree we have too many forwards but I expect Miller, Vic and Simoes all to go before window, which leaves us with: Woodrow Cole Frieser Morris Obbi Leya Iseka I make that six forwards vying for three positions. Only takes a couple of injuries and we end up with only one option off the bench. Seems reasonable to me.
I think if we're going to be up and around the Play-Off positions with aspirations of getting higher we need another midfielder that is going to weigh in heavily with goals and assists. I'm talking around the 12-20 goal mark plus assists. I'm hoping Morris will be our 20 goal striker this season. He's got genuine class. To have any chance you need both.
If you are wanting the club to buy a midfield player who can score between 12 & 20 goals plus assists at Championship level then I would be very interested to know who you think could meet that criteria within our budget, i cannot actually think of any player from any club that fits that bill but I can assure of this any player who has that ability is ( a ) premier league class & ( b ) would cost multi millions , can you please name who you think the club should go for .
I'm hoping that Josh Benson is this player. 5 or 6 goals from set pieces, 5 or 6 arriving late in the box, 3 or 4 worldies from outside the area....
Until last season, I can't ever recall a time we've had 6 genuine first team forwards. Granted, 3 up front is a new development for us, but 6 plus the kids and then 3 out on loan seems excessive for any club, let alone one who is trying to balance its budget after covid. Hopefully we can get some contribution for Adeboyejo, Miller and Simoes to offset the other losses we've crystallised. And of course, we may yet face an offer for Woodrow that we can't turn down and that of course would make things look very different.
