Long list of current absentees including Moore. Bet they're all up and running by next week, just in time to waltz through us 4-0. (our regular away opening score)
Either that or knowing our luck someone will get covid in their camp so the players all have to isolate, the match is postponed and when it's rearranged everyone is back for them.
That would be my first choice. Start the season with a pointless warm up game against Bolton then straight into a very winnable home game
Why is the Bolton game pointless? Do we not want to try winning anything? When we beat Peterborough in the first round of the League Cup in 1981 was that pointless? We went on to the quarter finals with some of the most memorable performances in our history. Or when we won at Southend in the early rounds of the FA Cup...and got to the semi final. Bolton won't be pointless if we use it as a stepping stone to doing something memorable.
More or less but that partly is due to the fact that playing any lower league team in it is, these days, seen as pointless.
Absolutely none but if all we ever play for is points then you can write the following out of our history... 1910 1912 Beating Man City at Oakwell in front of 35000 Going to the European Champions in a quarter final backed by 16000 fans and matching them toe to toe FA Cup Quarter finals against Liverpool and Newcastle. Thrashing Spurs in the FA Cup. Beating Man United at home in the FA Cup Beating Chelsea in the Cup Quarter Final Winning at Liverpool the previous round Playing in an FA Cup semi final at Wembley That's just the main highlights and I bet they figure high in the treasured memories of every single Barnsley fan who was lucky enough to have seen them. Oooh and I didn't mention one of my favourites...beating Oxford at Wembley a few years back.
To anyone who considers that game pointless. Should we win it and somehow go on to the final with a game v Chelsea at Wembley, can I have your ticket because obviously you won’t be interested and won’t be going.
