Interesting to read from the players about wanting to express themselves more and show more composure on the ball. Sounds like something that's already been discussed with Schopp
Sounds like as much as they all bought into Big Val's tactics a few of them seem relieved that we'll be knocking it about a bit more next time round. Players seem a lot like us fans; divided on the implementation of the tactics but freely acknowledge that they worked.
Good to hear that the 'press' is still there, teams at the Euro's have shown you can play 4-3-3 and still press.
I am looking forward to our midfield players that were often bypassed last season and our more technical forwards like Chaplin and Woodrow having really productive seasons I adored Val but the winning runs masked some weaknesses. If we’d have finished top 6 again who would have cared, but if we are going to finish 7th-10th which is probably more realistic you’d want to do so playing more footy on the ground
I want us to play exactly the same as last season. All I would like to see if the "mindless hoof" dispensed with when the player has options. In midfield instead of a hook kick over the shoulder into the channels I'd like them to meet it on the half turn and look up. If there's nowt on then ping the ball down the channel. At the back more of the same. Just replace Mowatt and improve all round awareness and we'll have a better season.
Mixed feelings tbh . The midfield in the times we did get it down and tried to play were lacking IMO . Got knocked off the ball easy and stray passes . Hopefully I’m proved wrong this season but I thought the tactics last season for the squad he had were bang on tbh. Just hope we don’t start like we did in the championship under Daniel where we played lively o e touch football till the final third then one stray osss and bang the oppo scored Like lambs to the slaughter. Hopefully the experience of the young lads shines through and we gain confidence as the season progresses.
The ball will stick with Morris and Cole supporting Woodrow. All three like it into feet but Morris and Cole can turn and have pace. Woodrow will benefit with a full season alongside Morris.
