Thanks for the memories Alex, run his blood to water for us especially this last season and deserves a pay day somewhere for some club that can’t afford it. Callum Styles step forward the King is dead long live the King
I think I might be alone in this opinion, but I don't see the need to move Styles into the middle. It might be his preferred position, but he's done an exceptional job in that left wing back position. It would be much more difficult to fill that position than it would centre midfield, especially when you consider we already have Kane and Palmer. I'd leave Styles where he is, and look at bolstering the midfield with someone else.
You aren't - I completely agree. Styles has been unbelievably good on that left flank, his fitness, drive, mobility and skill were vital to how we play (as was Brittain). If we moved him inside it would probably change the way we play and remove one of our greatest strengths.
If the new coach adopts a back four, or doesn’t use such a high press then he will have to move inside.
While I agree with that based on our team under Ismael. The page has been turned. We don't know how intense the press will be, what formation Schopp will adopt, what traits he values and what will be the key positions for his system to work effectively. We might find the energy from the fullbacks isn't required anymore and a back line needs to be more stable and compact. We probably need to suspend our preconceptions based on 2020/21 and see what this coach wants to do with the personnel at his disposal. It could be Styles (if he's still here..... I think he's most likely to be sold this window) is considered ideal to be in the middle. He played there with Bury and set the tone of play and dictated games apparently. We'll just have to be patient and wait and see what we're working with once the window closes.
I agree. I think some people forget we won't get anything for Mowatt so it's inevitable one of the other names will leave. As Styles is probably worth the most it will be most likely be him that's sold to give Schopp some money to spend.
If we went to 4-3-3 and played the following would anyone be upset? Collins Jordan Williams, Andersen, Helik, Kitching Brittain, Palmer, Styles Morris, Woodrow, Cole
Chances of keeping Styles and Helik has reduced significantly now Conway appears to be running day to day things again.
I think Helik not playing in the Euros has boosted his chances of staying here, because if he'd consistently performed against international opponents his profile would have risen dynamically.
I don't think that makes a bit of difference, if Murphy was still here and Conway told him to self Styles or Helik then that's what he'd do. Murphy wasn't an owner, he was an employee.
I'm not sure it is inevitable, considering we got £2m for Ismail, that might be our selling done for the summer. If we do sell more, I'd expect replacements where the new management team see gaps. Fullbacks are obvious positions we'd need to fill if we revert to a back 4 (as the new gaffer seems to favour).
Not so sure about that. The owners would've set a budget and part of that process would also have included an idea of how much money we needed to bring in, along with the principle of moving players on with a profit. But I think the CEO would have some leeway in how he/she responds to individual bids. Conway oversaw an absolute capitulation of a transfer window, because he was too rigid. He'll accept bids based on balance sheet / amortisation values.
That’s what Rimmo used to say to the players when he run on to the pitch with his bucket and sponge after they’d been hit in the nethers by the ball or a boot .
