Apparently he's wanted by Jamaican NationalTeam for 2022 World Cup. If my memory serves correct from the Brian Howard saga, I thought you had to represent England if you'd already played for the youth teams, regardless of parentage?
not true mate. There’s a lot of confusing rules when it comes to internationals. Look at Wilfred Zaha, he made 3 appearances for the England side and played in every youth side too yet he was still able to switch over to Ivory Coast. greenwood’s been capped by England at senior level so I’d be surprised if he chose Jamaica but you never know.
I think it depends on if he's been capped in a competitive game for the senior team. If he's only played in friendlies I think he can switch.
tbf Greenwood should be an England international for many years to come if he continues to develop. Always thought it was a shame that Zaha changed allegiance, could definitely be worth a squad place at the moment. I seem to recall being disappointed with Owen Hargreaves performances in an England shirt considering the efforts made to get him to represent England instead of a host of other countries he was eligible for, and similarly I believe Eric Dier had other international options.
declan rice didn't he get capped for Ireland at youth and then move to England? I remember some contraversy surrounding it.
From the BBC website: Jamaica want Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, 19, to switch his international allegiance from England. Players under 21 who have not played three competitive games for a country are able to make such a change. (Telegraph - subscription required)
Ha, ha, when Jack Charlton and Mick McCarthy were in charge of the Ireland team a player only had to be pictured with a pint of Guinness in hand to qualify for the team
It's a sulk by him or his camp to try n' get him back in the set-up. Let him go. It would be a massive error.
