Not good enough for the 26 man squad but plays tonight in a euro warm up game. Where's the logic? What if he has a blinder this evening?
makes no sense does it. Southgate's been strange comments for a few days now.... "I would pick 6 right backs if they were good enough...." "Some of the 26 man squad are already injured....." doesn't bode well
He has to go if they fail to go far in the Euros. He has had enough chances and his team selections seem to defy logic at times
He’s not playing any City, United or Chelsea players because of their final appearances. Probably why he’s playing. You put those players in (Foden, Rashford, Sterling) and he doesn’t start.
Your post defies logic. 'Had enough chances' - chances to do what? It's his first Euro's. World Cup semi-finals and scoring more goals than any other team in Europe by miles in Euro qualifying. How can he be in any way under pressure.
He has umpteen other players to try out. Just ridiculous to include Lingard tonight. (I would have included Lingard in the squad by the way). But now he isn’t it is just stupid. Use the players who are in the squad.
Oh I agree, I wouldn’t be playing Lingard but you don’t know if Sancho has a niggle? He’s the only other player on the bench who can play that winger position.
It may well be his first Euros but he has not achieved given the players he has at his disposal. He was a very underwhelming club manager and this is certainly reflected in his England role
Not achieved what? A loss to the Czech Republic aside, name another bad result? This has zero to do with him as a club manager.
He’s had one tournament where he got to the semis? What else do you expect him to do? His club management is irrelevant. I’d say Southgate’s given me some of the best memories of an England team in my lifetime
Would you say that England should have actually got to the last World Cup finals or that they struggled against Croatia? England should be aiming for the finals at every competition but they always underachieve, and Southgate has to take some responsibility for that. England have some amazing players and they should be on a level playing field with some of the other great footballing nations, but we are not. All I am saying is that he is not a very astute manager and has achieved very little in his national team role and also his domestic roles, his selection of Lingard tonight despite him being dropped from the squad for the Euros makes absolutely no sense and is a very strange decision.
Who would you suggest? Southgate offered Lingard the option of going home, but he wanted to stay and train just in case somebody dropped out of the squad.
In view of Southgate’s claim that the squad is interchangeable - anyone on the bench who is in the squad.
Well Sancho is the obvious choice but the fact he is picking a squad and then putting those just this minute not selected in the team/ on the bench suggests that this whole friendly is a complete waste if time.
