I don't think i am stepping out of line if i say a lot of our play is a hard watch for a lot of people especially in the first half and some of the second !! Some fans especially opposition fans comparing it to non league Sunday league stuff. i believe we are the only club in the history of televised football games where the commentators have openly made fun of .trolled ,mocked and literally burst out laughing at our tactics. How will the fans react to this in when back in the stadium i am aware people are saying it will be different when your at the ground as opposed to watching on TV where there are multiple distractions and also it can go from the worst match ever to a last minute win , every body goes crazy and everything that came before is forgotten but can people see it being a regular thing the team being booed off at half time or maybe throughout the game and at full time if things aren't going well or don't end well at the finish of the game playing the way we do. Or will the fans be patient and understanding and know its part of our overall game plan to win the game by the time the final whistle blows
Fans are usually happy if the team is winning matches. Whatever the tactics are it will be results & league position that the fans will be mostly bothered about. We are traditionally a "footballing" team, as opposed to a more direct one, but in times before VI we've fannied about at the back too much, putting pressure on ourselves & giving away soft goals, which is hardly good to watch from a spectator standpoint either.
It will be like Groundhog Day, booing and moaning every single week, I am certain of it. We have a sizeable majority of supporters that will only be happy if we are winning and playing champagne football.
Cannot for the life of me fathom this new found obsession with denigrating our tactics. All the evidence from the last 20 years has shown us is it is incredibly difficult for us to outperform our budget at this level. We uncovered a method to help us do this and suddenly we're getting loads of people questioning it. Personally I don't care how we play and what other people say about it. If these tactics allow us to become an established championship club and outperform our budget then I'm all for them. Of course if we're fighting relegation then that's another matter. Only have to look at Ipswich under Mccarthy or Charlton under Curbishley to see the folly of fans thinking there's a magic way to play more attractive football whilst fighting financial gravity. My main worry is that because the bar has been set so ridiculously high this season we'll get loads of grumbling if we don't manage to match that benchmark.
Results over performances every day of the week for me. But if the results stop then I guess some fans will become disgruntled even quicker than they usually are. If anyone boos because we are winning by clearing our lines rather than passing it around the 6 yard box then my only opinion is that they’re probably short a few brain cells. I don’t think anyone would though.
I can only speak for myself and say I'll give my full backing to Valerien Ismael and our players who have given so much to Barnsley Football Club in 2020/21. We have thoroughly deserved to finish where we did and anyone trying to claim otherwise is not someone I want to associate with. Next season is an entirely new campaign, but I for one am a proud Barnsley fan and can't wait to show my appreciation.
I don't get any enjoyment from paying money, that is difficult to come by, to listen to whineycrapweasels boo their own team. I personally think these people should be systematically hoofed in the conkers/front bum
Some folk go to football to moan. Always have and always will. I don't think we as a club boo at matches as much as other teams because in general our expectations are lower. Mad to think we've missed so much football, I'll be glad just to be in the ground again.
They should all get in early for the start of the season and give them a big round of applause when they come out for their efforts the previous season.
To be fair alot can happen between now and the start of the season, vals comments after didn't fill.me.qith confidence he will be here next season although I hope I'm wrong.
If it works and we keep winning they'll be happy if it stops working and we start to lose more often than win it might get a bit interesting down at Oakwell. The style of play favoured by VI is radically different from what we've seen before at Oakwell Even Dave Basset tactics weren't as direct. But while ever we keep Winning the majority will keep smiling even if it is through gritted teeth
I was one of the first to criticise the tactics and systems of play, but I never have, and never will boo my team. That will not stop me wishing and hoping for something more compatible with the way that I believe football ought to be played. However, I feel that there are others who are putting up with the tactics as long as we are winning. I dread to think what their reaction will be if we start losing, and I think that there is a strong possibility that those people will be tested.
Dave Bassett was an odd one out for me. When he came in I was expecting Wimbledon style garbage but we were more like Kevin Keegan's Newcastle. Ultimately had the same outcome though. As we lost in the Play-Off final and Newcastle threw the League title away.
Don’t get this view are tactics are boring whatsoever . As soon as the opposition gets the ball one of our players are onto him till he passes or loses it . It’s a lot faster than allowing teams to tippy tippy out of their half imo with players just happy to stand their ground whilst they pass it again . The game Is more exciting to watch , quicker and more unpredictable . Obviously we all have our favourite ways of playing but watching full backs and centre half’s passing it to each other and then when confronted pass to the goalie who hoofs it anywhere . I think we’re more exciting to watch than last season when we had more percentage of the ball and more completed passes but lost most games .
