Will be interested to see who takes him up. Classy player and hope he stays injury free wherever he goes.
It would have to be at a team that needs a link up player. He isn't a defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder. He just gets in pockets and plays short passes and breaks up play. The modern style requires midfielders that can attack and defend and with more reliance on the 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 score goals.
Interesting he's scored 3 goals while at Coventry and got several assists including 3 on the final day v Millwall.
There won’t be many better free transfers out there this summer. Unbelievable footballer and an even better human being.
Id have him back in a heart beat. I think not just his play but his presence on and off the pitch was immence. Several of our current squad commented how he had helped/improved their game. Wish he was playing saturday against Swansea.
I'm sure Palmer and Kane loved watching him from the bench. I'm also pretty sure Mowatt would have been glad he had the arm band.
I imagine Coventry would love to keep him - but wages might be a problem - wonder if we would be interested if we stay in the Championship and cant persuade Mowatt to sign -but again I guess wages. Just hope he doesnt go to the Blunts because I like him and would like to see him do well
Will probably stay in the Midlands somewhere. The sort of signing I can see Forest or Derby making. Maybe even Stoke.
Surely Derby cant afford him or doesnt that matter once you are so far in debt and so far outside the financial rules whats another 25k or so per week
In all fairness, once his contract lapses, he'll be earning nothing. With the scare clubs have had during the pandemic, even the more sensible ones, surely we must be at a point where prudence takes pride of place and wages actually come down rather than spiral further out of control.
I'd guess that no matter where he ends up his new contract will come nowhere near the one that's just finished.
There will be a lot of out of contract players struggling to find clubs as squad sizes will be trimmed due to financial pressures of covid. Think it might re-set the bar for wage levels across the board.
Very harsh on James. I thought he was quite the well rounded midfielder, without the obvious pace. I don’t think we saw the best of him this season with our style of football. He’ll do a job at a mid table side, if he can stay fit.
Why? If Mowatt leaves we'll need an all action box to box midfielder with an eye for goal and decent dead ball specialist. He'd be good if we were changing tactics as an addition to the squad but could we legislate paying those wages for someone who is just good around the place.
