In football, you tend to get everything you deserve. Sadly, against a very ordinary Championship
team in Preston North End, our lack lustre performance yesterday deserved absolutely nothing.

Didn't watch it yesterday but after watching that, (probably due to some biased editing), we looked much the better side, put some nice moves together and created quite a few chances.

Can I ask @YTBFC how much the average viewing figures differ between a win and a loss?

When I saw this posted, it struck me that it’s like being a wedding photographer where the couple split up before you get to deliver the proofs. It doesn’t matter how great the work is, no ones interested in seeing it.

Also, when we win the content is 15-16 minutes long and when we lose it's about 8-8 minutes long. 2nd half "highlights" here are 2 minutes, 30 seconds of which is Preston's goal with us kicking the ball back to the centre spot. (Yes I've watched it and yes I'm a sadist :))

Massive drop-off. Unless the defeat was controversial, or we lost but scored a couple of goals. Sunderland away in 2018 and Bristol Rovers same season. One was controversial, the other was because we’d gone up I suppose. Plenty of views.

The first year we started doing them, 2017, we only did them after a win really. But then I felt like by doing them, for every game, it was both honest of us and simultaneously creating archive footage of each game. So that many years into the future, if a fan wanted to look back at our defeat to Shrewsbury in 2018, they’d be able to via YouTube. So from 2018 onwards, there’s a recap of every game. And then this season we decided to put a second version on ifollow that has no music on it. Which isn’t necessarily much different from the musical one, but it’s still doubling the workload for us.

I was going to stop doing them, before the 19/20 season. Purely out of selfish, self-interest. Because the day after a game, often a Sunday which is meant to be our ‘day off’ so to speak, it’d be nice to chill out and not have to spend half the day on the laptop. And believe me, it wasn’t much fun doing them at the start of last season. Although the Preston away version from that season was decent. I think it was clear when watching that, that things weren’t great. And a day after that recap, well, we all know the rest.

I think Fleetwood at home in 2019 was one of the highest viewed recaps that season. And Gillingham away. I’ll let you guess the reasons behind that.

I think Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth away are the most watched this season. Coventry away the least. Based on combined figures from YouTube and ifollow.

At least I'm not on my own when it comes to not watching the defeats! :D
This doesn't detract from how enjoyable and professional they are and it's a big Thank You for them from me, old mate.

The things that determine the length are incidents. Goals. Controversy. And so on. We don’t shorten them because we lost. It’s just that, ordinarily, there’s less footage to include. So yesterday for example, there was no Reds goal. No major incidents really. There’s still the usual amount of pre-match footage included. But if we lose, and don’t score, there’s going to be less match footage, no full time scenes and no GoPro angles.

And yesterday I completely forgot to add Matt’s commentary over the footage. So much like the team this weekend, not my best performance.

While it's very admirable of you to spend the same amount of time on matches we lose, you're right it is more honest, it doesn't seem to be the best use of your time when few people will watch it.

I do think it's important that there's an archive of footage, but it's also important you get a day off. The stuff you publish is appreciated, particularly this season when we can't go to games, but I think you should re-evaluate just how much of your time you dedicate to it.

    Thanks mate.

It is something that will change after this season ends. Not sure how yet, as until May 30, we don’t know what division we are going to be in, or what budgets are going to look like. We even had one member of our then four-man team leave in January of 2020. Then COVID arrived and there was a fear that perhaps we’d be furloughed or made redundant. Been a challenging year for us all I suppose. Which makes what has happened since October of last year even more astonishing.

Myself and my colleague have written lengthy pieces in the Norwich edition of Grove Street, about this last 12 months. I hope it offers an insight into what we do. I was very open about my struggles with mental health last year.

Thanks Whitey, a much more detailed response than I’d hoped for.

Although I now feel a bit more guilty for not watching when you’ve worked on your day off.

edit: And just to add, I think the work the team do is brilliant. Keep it up.

Don't get me wrong mate, I'm not criticising at all. You and the comms team do a brilliant job and I like all the work you do. You're right, if there's no incidents or goals, there's not much to show really

Love em win lose or draw ,the match itself with different views of the action and the close up reactions of the players / staff.. I particularly enjoy the behind the scenes section tbh , entering the ground and a little tour of the stadium .
Also like to see different members of staff the unsung heroes so to speak who are obviously very important to our matchday experience.
Keep em coming mate your efforts are well received and appreciated
