We certainly bombed out down a dark alley as he took us through a corridor of confusion. That left us uncertain whether we would retain our divisional status in League 1.

The owners of our club deserve praise for the season we're enjoying but make no mistake. They're involved for the same reason as the owners of the 'big six' - to make money for rich people.

I daresay any opposition to all this from them is more to do with it devaluing what they've bought than it is decency and tradition.

I've questioned in the past whether our owners understand the passion for the game from working class English people. That they view us through too much of an American lens, not in what they call relegation but in how they interpret following a football team. Maybe in a way, a threat to move us from Oakwell represents our own 'Super League' situation that disregards loyal fans and tradition in favour of commercialism and greed.

One thing I'm delighted about is they can no longer be under any naïve illusions about what European football means to the masses. Our clubs are OURS.

 

I look and feel old. It's working here, for divisional retention and Tina Tyke that does it.

 

You looked old when I first met you when you were twenty. I remember asking Roy "will you introduce me to JLWBLil" in Redfearns, but it turns out it wasn't him.

All owners (not just ours) will realise strength of feeling and I hope it resonates. No malice intended.

 

There's been a lot of criticism of the rebels. From plenty of teams who you just can't believe have the audacity. Brighton. Burnley. Their situations are far from a shining example of how to run a football club, but they are in the PL so they can crow of the greed of other clubs breaking away.

I'd pay little attention to statements from most clubs, including ours to be honest. I suspect many if not most would take several hundred million pounds for signing on the dotted line to never get relegated again.

It would be just Barnsley's luck to finish 7th in the season when the top six are promoted
