A lucky win due to Verstappen making a **** up! Let's hope hope red bull really take the challenge to Mercedes this season.
It wasn't lucky. He's driving a slower car, had the slowest tires on for 75% of the race, his tires were 10 laps older than Max's and he held him off right at the end. Max was too desperate and made a mistake. He'll learn from that. It looks like it'll be a good battle this season.
He absolutely drove the wheels off that Mercedes today and has won a race he had no right to win. He did not have the fastest car this weekend and the man who did is one of the best on the grid and he still held him off and forced him into a error. Let's hope the season shapes up like that.
That was a Champion's drive, and I don't think anyone on the grid could have won that race in those circumstances. To lift his pace and still have tyres left at the end(despite having much older tyres) was pure class. In this day and age, where athletes are able to sustain their performance levels into much older ages than at any other time, it's not out of the question that he could add 2 or 3 more titles to his collection.
Unfortunate that yet again when it can't to the chance of the wrong driver winning Mercedes managed to accidentally balls up the number 2 pit stop determining which of their drivers finished ahead. They seem to make that accidental mistake a lot at mercedes
Bottas slow pit stop actually made things harder for Mercedes as it left Hamilton completely exposed to Verstappen. If it hadn't happened Verstappen would have either had to stop sooner to cover the undercut from Bottas and thus lose some of his tyre advantage or would have had to pass both Mercedes on track.
Maybe but they still seem to make a disproportionate amount of pit stop mistakes with their second driver compared to other teams or their first driver and it's not just a Lewis thing, look at last year when they screwed number 2 George Russell over. I'm not saying Hamilton wouldn't have won, he did excellently. I'm just saying that their mistakes always seem to ensure their number one car finishes ahead of their number two.
As I remember they made a mess of both drivers pit stops that day last season. I find it hard to believe that they would intentionally adopt such a policy. They also called Hamilton in for a pit stop last season and cost him a win. Rosberg won a world title because Hamilton had greater reliability issues than him. I suppose without actually going through the numbers I can't say for certain you're wrong but my gut says you are seeing something that isn't there.
Luck should be re-defined as having the appropriate skill set and eagerness to achieve something...... Not a dig btw
Absolutely superb driving from Lewis. I shouldn’t be surprised by anything he does these days but I still am. What a race. This could be a very interesting season.
