We can jest but what's happening this season can only be good for the club attracting those fans back that have been staying away since 2002 because we'd stagnated. Even if it isn't this season if we can somehow follow the Brentford mould and be in and around the top six for a few years the support will keep going back up.
A couple of issues with the Brewery land I'm afraid. In my somewhat distant past I was part of a team looking to develop this part of town. I'm nearly sure that there is geological fault on that site somewhere that limits what can be built. Also don't forget the rather large water main nearby with a restrictive easement. This affected the current East Stand remember. The site I'm afraid is a bit of a basket case and needs a fair amount of investment before it can be developed for anything. If anyone knows anymore about the site I'd love to hear about it!
Brentford’s support is crap mate. Yes it’s gone up from when they were at their natural level, league one, but that’s because their owner has chucked £100 million at them. Their new stadium only holds 17k, which for a club aiming for the prem isn’t very ambitious. As for our crowds staying away, the regulars haven’t. The extra fans from the prem and playoff season were only fair weather fans, we’ve all got them. Our gates have never fallen back below the season before we were promoted to the prem, and pre lockdown I think we were averaging around 14k. There were several clubs with smaller averages at this level, clubs that were higher than us in the table.
I don't remotely think those photos mean a new stadium is on the cards. But I would accept it if it meant we could progress. I support the club, and am not tied to Oakwell.
Other than greed in the ownership of the stadium currently there is absolutely no reason at all why barnsley would ever move from the current ground. We have a stadium that has three excellent modern stands, the concourses of the east and ponty end have never looked better, the north stand is completely underutilised due to ineffective stewarding rather than stand design. We have carparking thats the envy of many clubs We have a training facility right next to the stand. We have unutilised space next to the ground and training facilities What benefit is there of abandoning all of that and moving elsewhere just for the sake of it? Anyone who says 'but the west stand is old blah blah blah' is living in Dreamland if they think it's cheaper and easier to buy land somewhere and build an entire new stadium and training facilities than it is to knock down a crappy old stand and build a new one. I'd understand it if all our stands were like the west and we didn't have an academy right next to the ground but come on its ludicrous to even suggest moving away and the only motivation for doing so is childish politics and greed between a set of millionaires who should be ashamed of themselves.
I was rather hoping a new brewery was on the cards A lovely golden hand pulled real ale with just a quarter of an inch of creamy head and which sticks to the glass all the way down.... Called Oaken Well Gold ok yes I'm dribbling.... And hallucinating at the same time
I’ve heard pic of gates means we’re signing Gareth Gates to start songs off in the Ponty. ........or was it Eric Gates??
