If we finished outside the playoffs at the end of the season would you be disappointed or would you say we have more than overachieved this season?
We have done better than I thought but having got there with so few games left I would be disappointed if we blew the play offs now
If they'd given their all and it just wasn't enough then I wouldn't be disappointed. Does feel like an amazing opportunity I never thought would happen anytime soon to have another go at getting to the Prem.
Its not like we challenge year on year for the playoffs so we need to make the most of this opportunity although after saying that whatever happens in these last 8 games we’ve definitely over achieved this season.
I think we've had a fantastic season. If we miss out on the Play Offs, I'll be bitterly disappointed. But I'll still appreciate & be proud of the progress and commitment we've made with these players and Head Coach.
At the start of the season, If you'd have said that we'd finish just outside the playoffs, I'd have snatched your hand off. Now we're in 5th after a magnificent run I'd have to say we need to take this opportunity. So if we miss out on the playoffs now, I'd be disappointed
We have over achieved when you compare us to other teams in the play offs and squad value etc. We need to take advantage now though as this will be our highest leave finish for 20 years and it could be another 20 before we come close to the play offs again because we're likely to lose players in the summer mowatt, styles, helik, dike maybe others . Finish in that top 6 out could happen.
3rd v 6th (3rd place at home 2nd leg) 4th v 5th (4th place at home 2nd leg) winners play at Wem-ber-lee
Whatever happens, it can’t be said that we’ve not squeezed every point possible out of this season since VI took over. If we do fall short, it’ll be a case of just running out of steam. But I’d look more at the first 7 games of the season than the last 8.
I'd be disappointed if our challenge for the play offs fell away now. We are there purely on merit. Must say, it was great to hear the BBC commentary team talk of Barnsley FC in absolutely glowing terms during the FA Cup Quarter final tie between Chelsea and Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon. They both were of the mind that we will remain in the top six and thus figure in the run in to determine who goes up.
I'd be disappointed, but it's been a phenomenal season. If we'd been offered 7th at the start of the season, we'd have all taken it. I do feel that this could be our best chance for a while at a chance of promotion though. We are likely to lose a couple of big names in the summer, and whilst our recruitment this season has been good overall, there's always the risk that we'll need another season of 'bedding in' with any new signings we make. I also feel the 5 subs rule has played into our hands massively, and when we revert to 3 subs, we won't be able to influence the game with our changes as much as we have this season. I also think that we've been incredibly fortunate, not to lose any key players to a long term injury. Barring the odd lay off for Halme, Williams and Palmer, our entire squad has remained largely injury free, despite the demanding schedule. I always envisioned with our recruitment strategy, that eventually we'd be able to challenge in this division. I actually thought this season, we'd be comfortably above the relegation zone, but maybe just lacking that bit of knowhow in order to break the top half. I thought that next season would be our one, where we transitioned from bottom half, to play off dark horses. So long as the heart and soul isn't ripped from the team, there's no reason why we can't maintain our top half status for the next few seasons at least.
I agree. With the correct in and outs on the right contracts it might take a bit longer but we'll get there in the end. I thought that when these owners came in to be honest. A relegation apart they haven't been bad recruitment wise on the playing front.
I would be slightly disappointed. Not in a way where I would want to criticise anyone of the staff or players. But given the position we are now in with a decent run in I would feel disappointed we had missed out on a opportunity that may not come again for years. That said if we do make the play offs I would have us as outsiders for promotion.
and they've learned from their mistakes. They said after the start of teh 2019/20 when they sold/recruited loads, they wouldn't do that again - and they haven't (yet)
The two players we stand to lose it's out of our hands. Dike (loan) and Mowatt (promotion dependant). I'd sacrifice Styles, Helik, Woodrow or Andersen to balance the books and keep that continuity of recruitment if need be. If we want to be following the Brentford model it's the way forward. I know people get attached to players but if we don't get promotion this season it will be for the greater good.
I'm not sure about that mate. Replacing two players in a good squad is better than 4. One thing is for certain, all our players have been noticed now we're on a good run and in the top 5. So can we keep hold of them? Million dollar question isn't it....
I should have put "one of players" listed apologies. What I meant was if we got £10 million for player X that would tidy us over and maybe bring in one or two replacements.
