Looks to me that most teams are getting 3-4 decent scoring chances per game v BFC as an overall rule of thumb. Might be wrong but looks about right to me. If so, at this level I think 1-2 of those should be hitting the net which also means that we do need to regularly score at least 2 a game. At the moment we seem to be doing that I think but its quite tight. Fine margins etc...
Definitely fine margins that thankfully we are coming out the right side of but other than Norwich who look like there going to easily win the league most games in this league are pretty tight.
Didn’t see today’s game, but there was only the header from the free kick reported as a chance for them. Don’t recall more than one or two proper chances for any of Brentford, Blackburn, Bristol, or Stoke. QPR maybe, and didn’t see the Millwall game. We’ve conceded something like 3 in 8 games.
We concede a few chances each game, but it's under the philosophy of "we'll get more chances than them". 7 on the spin shows it works imo
We're currently 2nd in the league for xG against, at 1.12 per game. Only Middlesbrough at 1.05 are better. Basically we're giving up very few good chances, 0 shots on target for Birmingham today. https://footystats.org/england/championship/xg
Teams are able to get behind or over our high line but don't have the quality to be clinical when they do. I think we were very similar in the first half of the season but the addition of Dike and Morris has changed that.
Had one break away as I recall, 1 effort, off target. If they were still playing now they'd still have nil....
I think there’s more to it than that. The obvious view of our high line is that the opposition can simply play over it to take advantage of the space, but the drill for the high line is then mirrored to get back to defend. A super fast, super fit Chelsea only managed to beat it once, A couple of Championship opponents have managed, but as a rule it’s been very difficult to get 2 men into that void, meaning real chances for them are rare. The arrival of Dike and Morris has changed our forward line from being an annoyance (surrounded by midges) to being overpowering (hemmed in by bouncers). My gut tells me that it shouldn’t be possible for us to press this intensively twice a week. But my eyes keep watching them do it. How long can they keep it up though?
Hopefully 2 weeks and 4 games. Then they'll get a rest for a couple of weeks - except for Helik who will be with Poland....
The way to beat us, and I can't believe no opposition team does it having been given a perfect illustration by Chelsea, is to leave your centre forward deep in our half, 10, 20 even 30 yards offside. Then play the ball over the top down wings where Collins can't get to it. Winger springs the offside trap, guy in the middle just ensures he's behind the ball when it's crossed to him.
Most chances Iive seen have been from throw ins and corners. I'm not a fan of zonal marking, not sure what advantage it gives over picking a man up.
It’s football, choose whatever system you play chances are the opposition are going to have opportunities of varying degrees to score.
