I thought they were excellent today. Slightly ran out of steam in the last 15 but the best side we’ve played since Norwich.
Thought they were great 1st half - had us sussed in midfield and they stopped Mowatt and Palmer playing. Think switching Halme for Palmer gave us control back - great to have Halme back - very intelligent and reliable wherever he plays
They play like that and at best get draws. No thank you, only Bennett and their goalie really impressed me today. Fair play to.Rowett, he got the better of us first half.
I think Millwall surprised us early on by playing pace up top. Valerien changed it around and Sibbick’ space nullified Millwall’s Bennett. Millwall came with a game plan to nullify our press and for much of the first half it worked. Probably a big compliment to how we have progressed, teams setting up to try to counter our attacking style.
After reading their forum prior to kick off, I was surprised that they came out and gave us a game as much as they did. Their fans expected 10 men behind the ball, and nick a goal on the counter. I'd argue they matched us first half. Val's subs at half time were the right ones. I was surprised Sibbick hadn't started because of that extra pace he gives us at the back. I thought Palmer had been very wasteful in possession, and Halme gave us more mettle in the middle to try and nullify their combative midfield. I was close to giving Halme man of the match, simply because of how much his introduction changed the game. I thought in the 2nd half, Millwall were always on the back foot, and if there was going to be any more goals in the game, it would be for us. Credit to them, first half, they looked a good side. My praise of them stretches as far as their players and Gary Rowett. I apportion no praise whatsoever to their embarrassment of a fan base.
Possibly my favourite win of the season. They surprised us with their line up and had us sussed first half, but Big Val outsussed them at half time. People have criticised him for being inflexible, but whilst the formation remains the same the way different players slot into it massively changes our approach. Great management we really seem to have found a gem here. Long may it continue.
Yep imho...game for the coaches and tactics. Both teams play direct, as ive previously stated anyone who wishes to beat us absolutely must match our workrate. Wasnt a palmer kind of game today, i think he will be a good un but hes still learning and this was more suited to halme...well done the coach for the 2 changes (needed sibbick to mitigate bennett too).
I thought their best player was Romeo - skilful, pacy and quite direct. Good player on the basis of what I saw yesterday Helen.
They played without a recognized striker and went with pace from deep There are a few who would be having kittens in here if we did they..... there are still nightmares about spackmans 4-6-0 formations!
This one was a good one for red rain. Millwall did their homework on us. Pointless trying to compete in the air with Anderson and Helik so they kept Smith on the bench and went for runners with pace skill, We win the ball in the air in defence and our midfield pick up the 2nd ball Their goal came from a break, they used their pace knowing that Sollbaure Heliks slight weakness was pace in our defence. We strive on high press up front and pick up the scraps again in midfield, they didn't give us anything to press by not playing out from the back at all. As already said the changes Val made in Sibbick Halme changed the game back in our favour and the players were good enough to adapt. This covered our pace at the back and added height and presence in midfield. Good stuff all round.
Sibbick has pace, agreed, but I think he still is lacking in positional sense at times, which obviously he'd gain with experience. Meanwhile, Sollbauer remains my first choice at Right Centre Back
They gave us a better game than a lot of clubs have recently. Their fans are still pricks though. https://millwall-forum.vitalfootbal...-barnsley-v-millwall-ko-3pm.47157/post-763057
Both have their merits. As VI is showing us at various times. I do like Solly though. He galvanised last season and without that we wouldn't be where we are today. In Val we trust
Ive watched and read what opposing managers have said in the interviews post our games with them of late. What is really encouraging is most talk of the tactics they deployed to combat our high press, need to get the basics spot on and aim for getting behind our high line. All have failed. We have found a style and identity that clubs now try to figure out. Few of late have talked about letting their own style and approach dictate the game. It's been more about how they play against ours. So whats next for us, whats the next step? Personally i think we need to now aim to get our GD up and win by more than the 1 goal. We have had enough chances to do so in games. Also i think next season, clubs will be more aware of our style, have time to think it through and take us more seriously. Bit like Sheff Utd in the Prem this season. So i think we perhaps need to find also a Plan B. But the reality is our Plan A is good enough right now to make opposition tactics adjust and we are steamrolling some teams even if its not reflected the scoreline.
Comedy Gold: They’ve got a player called Dike - must be a result of a liaison between a Lezza and a Pikey!
I hate them. However, I agree with you 100%. Never felt confident today that we were going to get a result. Thought Rowett's game plan was the toughest one to crack since Val's been in charge. But Val's changes at half time did the trick. COYR.
