VI again superb with his tactics and team set up. This man does not suffer fools and is tactically excellent. dike and Morris are the forwards we have been screaming for and now look at the impact they are having pay mowatt whatever he needs break the wage structure and build around him don’t let him go he is the heartbeat and glue of our team stay under the radar we are an outside bet coming up in the rails
Afternoon churton if the ceiling is £15k then sod it give him £20k+ need to keep mowatt losing him isn’t an option surely
Mowatt wants to stay, he hasn`t signed because he wants to see where the club are heading. Well Alex, how much more do you want to see, get signed!
I honestly don't think he'll sign. Would love him to stay but also appreciate that he'll get a flupping reyt payday on a free transfer. So. Fair enough.
Sell Schmidt,Thomas, Miller, Mcgeehgan and reinvest that money into players contracts that are performing and benefiting the club.
I don't think it is the money particularly but more that the next deal he does with a club determines the level he plays at. Does he play it safe and stay with us or does he try and get a chance at the Prem if someone will have him or seem likely to take him up but he might end up warming a bench? Now that we're almost certainly safe we've got more chance of him signing at least. You can see why he wouldn't want to commit himself if he then finds himself back in League One when there's a chance a top Championship side might take him and he could have a shot at the Prem. Whilst money can offset that, it does mean a possible opportunity lost.
Wonder if he'd be willing to sign to then be sold? Would he take a reduced signing on fee at another club due to another club having to pay the club. Could you write a sale price bonus % into aforementioned contract?
Even if we break the wage structure and offer him significantly more than what that structure dictates it would still be much less than what he could receive elsewhere. That's what we're up against. We have, under both the last regime and this, sold too many players in a single transfer window on more than one occasion. We've allowed contracts to come close to expiry before beginning negotiations on a new one. Both, I believe, can be fairly criticised. But in this situation I really don't believe there's anything the board can do. We can't afford what Mowatt could earn elsewhere. We've tried to keep him. If he goes there'll be no criticism from me directed at either club or player.
He looked so happy in the interview after the Blackburn match. Money isn't everything Alex but I do agree with Jay's post.
Irrespective of whether he leaves or not, he has been a superb professional. Any improved contract offer we can afford to make him will be well deserved.
You are always going to get signings that don’t work out. In fairness, Sibbick would have been on your list a few weeks ago.
Once out of contract, a 'signing on fee' in lieu of what we'd have to pay for a replacement is one way round the wage structure
