not just last night, but in general, helps make strikers minds up,I know narrowing angle etc, but if your not going to make it ,think you be better off seeing if defenders get back, Collins never stood a chance last night
I was just waiting for one of the keepers to 'do a Schmeichel' last night with that pitch. Good job it didn't happen, but would you like to keep goal on a pitch like that and in those weather conditions?
Not having a go at him, he just make a bad decision last night, he was never going to get there and just made it easier for the striker
It certainly affected our keeper's kicking which was pretty dire half the time (maybe more). He made a good connection sometimes, certainly, but there were so many sliced clearances into touch. The conditions must have been a factor - constant rain and a bobbly pitch.
I don't like it when he runs into the corners to kick the ball. If it doesn't go to a Barnsley player the opposition are left with an open goal.
played in net, its awful, once got a ball full in the face from close range, thought I was going to cry, everyone just laughed
I thought his kicking was good, can only remember once when he kicked it out of play? The thing I didn't like was the slow mo picking up of the ball when you have a striker right near. One second too slow and they ve scored!
Really? I don’t have the option to watch it again but I’m pretty sure that lots of Brad’s kicks went into touch, and often didn’t cross half way
Scares me to death. There's a difference between 'commanding your area' and rushing out 'as a matter of course'.
Whilst we were 1-0 up he kept running into the right hand channel and kicking the ball across the pitch to the point that I was thinking wtf is he doing?
That crossed my mind - think Collins has done well but might have been better holding his ground. Gives striker more to think about - fair play to Armstrong though - great finish
It also gives the defenders a clear steer on what to do. If you know the keeper is coming you make decisions accordingly, if you're not sure, you're less clear what decisions to make. Last night given the 'skiddy' nature of the pitch, his position on the edge of the box had me concerned, but that's how he plays.
It should have never come to that,at 2-0 we’ve got the game won, needs a bit of game management,no need to chase game.
I think the fact that most goalies are already in a sweeper-keeper starting position when the ball is in the opponents half, then that will account for him rushing out. Ten or twenty years ago, at 90 mins our keeper would have been keeping warm on his 6 yard line, and yes, that might have helped last night!! I did 3 seasons in nets. Thankless task.
Don't have a problem with his decision to come out, his starting position was probably a bit too deep, or more likely our back line was 5-10 yards too high, given the situation of the game. To be fair, it was an excellent finish, he's one of the top scorers in the league, he should be scoring when put through on goal, at least in coming out it made him do something well to earn his goal.
You may well be right but I noticed when he did it and then never noticed it again. He's very reliable kicking it way into the opposition half imo.
