Came across this. Archibald Leach’s recommendations for a safe and comfortable watch at Hampden.
I was once in a 120k crowd at a Scotland England game. I was in that huge east terrace and I felt crushed.
Look at the capacity of the terrace alone. More than the ground capacity of Celtic Park now.
H&S would sh*t bricks looking at these figures.

To ensure comfort and safety, capacity has been restricted to 138, 000. Just couldn't contemplate those figures nowadays

The Health and Safety Commission and the Health and Safety Executive only came into being in 1974. Furthermore the enforcing authority for safety at football stadia is not the HSE, it's the local authority. More's the pity.

It was seeing Sam Leitch presenting football focus in the early 70's that drew me to Celtic. "And now we'll have last week's action from Scotland."

It always seemed to be the same thing. This weird team in shirt colours that no one else wore. No numbers on the back of the hoped shirts - just numbers on the shorts. A little red haired bloke jinking around some hammer throwing types wearing blue and white and then these VAST terraces full of fans cheering their heads off when a bloke wearing No 5 shorts rose in the penalty box to head home one of the red haired blokes crosses.

    Mesmerizing to one so young.
